I am stuck up with my Sop...What changes one must make to make it perfect
I am in a relationship with Mathematics! Be it my engineering curriculum, my favorite novels (Science and Mathematical thrillers), my favorite television show-NUMB3RS (a crime show in which a brilliant universalist mathematician assists FBI to ferret out the most tricky criminals) or be my favorite pastime-to crack mathematical puzzles, brainteasers and reasoning questions , for me it's Math 24/7.Math brings out the best of me. 'I talk Math, I walk Math, and I eat Math.'
A lecture on Geometric Brownian Motion, dealing with the fluctuations in the stock market sparked an interest to explore finance .But along with interest rose plenty of doubts.Dedication, desire to excel and a good teacher, if has them, doubts remain a mere illusion. My teachers, the three BIBLES of finance-Investment Science by Luenberger, Options, Futures and other Derivatives by John.C.Hull and An Elementary Introduction to Mathematical Finance by Sheldon Ross have aided me in understanding topics such as Fixed Income Securities, The Arbitrage Theorem, Pricing via Arbitrage, Hedging strategies using Futures and Mechanics of the Options Market. A two -month internship at S.K Somani & Associates, a Chartered Accountancy firm in Mumbai, introduced me to the basics of Balance Sheets and Profit &Loss Statements (Income Statements). A further study on the Financial Statements helped me understand that how actually these statements reflect the potential and the performance of a company. Through highly quality discussions among the members of the Entrepreneurship Cell (a club with its main focus on issues related to finance and economics), I am now familiar with the concept of Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC), Diversification of Earnings and Quality of Earnings.
You can swim all day in the Sea of Knowledge and still come out completely dry. Most people do. Knowledge becomes power only when put to use. The Masters in Finance program at the Warwick Business School has a right balance between theory and practice. The curriculum of this program, which has been designed following a range of recommendations from financial institutions such as Bank of England, Goldman Sachs etc. will help me master the modern analytical and quantitative tools that are increasingly used in the financial sector and thus aid me in applying them to the real world. I strongly believe that this program will provide me with invaluable expertise to establish a career in the field of Investment Management, Financial analysis and Corporate Finance. In addition, I have always loved studying human behavior and the idea of applying it to finance mesmerizes me .I am very keen to explore this area and the elective 'Behavioral Finance' will assist me in doing so. A friendly campus and an institution that teaches its students to transcend and expand their horizon, is essentially why I have opted to study at the Warwick Business School.
Consistent academic excellence, starting in school, continuing in college, is testimony to my hard work and commitment towards academics. My immense love for mathematics and a rigorous engineering curriculum has instilled in me sound problem solving and analytical abilities which are required to meet the rigor of this demanding program. I am sure I will add a new dimension to this program. I not only see the glass half full, while others see it half empty, I also see it as a challenge to fill the rest of the half.
