hi, i have attached my Statement of Purpose for your read through and comments. Please correct any errors, i welcome suggestions also which could make it more interesting and attractive.
Food borne illness is one of the major health problems around the world, especially in the paediatrics due to the lack of hygienic habits, poor processing of foods and increased susceptibility to the causative organisms. There are nearly 5 million deaths around the world due to acute gastro intestinal problems caused by these food borne pathogens. But as we know there are not many detection methods that are rapid and accurate for the diagnosis of these pathogens and hence, the need for the development of rapid and accurate detection method of human pathogenic bacteria is a very necessary and hence been my topic of interest.
I have developed a great interest in this field, since this can help in the faster diagnosis and help the common people. Although a large number of PCR and DNA hybridization methods have been developed, the technology lacks effective translation. With the ever-growing number of bacterial whole genome sequences in databases, this valid data makes us re think the RNA based diagnosis. I have attended a training program on bioinformatics which has opened a new window of awe and interest. This diagnosis mainly involves a 24 hr detection technique by the amplification of a single region in the rRNA operon and studying the polymorphism by RFLP mapping.
As a developing scientist, I have always loved the beauty of nature and my current and previous projects reflect exactly my research interests. Therefore I want to capitalise my research interests, knowledge, expertise to do a doctoral program in the assigned duration of time.
The projects like the PCR-RFLP based Bacterial ribotyping and Characterisation of many metal efflux genes in E.coli have captivated me so much which extensively deals with the biology of microbes and molecular mechanisms. With the knowledge in microbiology, molecular biology and with an international experience has enabled me to confidently apply to your esteemed lab. I have been involved in practical research work at National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), Taiwan for my internship and hence I can be well accustomed with the international environment.
I have a good academic record and a good knowledge in molecular techniques like PCR, RFLP, Silver staining, culturing of cancer cell lines and some bioinformatics tools. As I have mentioned in my CV, I have good project management and possess good presentation and communication skills.
Apart from my academic side, I am personally a fun loving, jovial person with a good sense of humour.
With a mindset to excel, I am confident that I would overcome any challenges and definitely would serve better and bring glory to the institution if I was given a chance. Thus I could use all my skills, experience and knowledge to successfully complete the doctoral program in the assigned time.
