Scholarship / Fight against diseases. 2017 KGSP Graduate Program - Letter of Self-Introduction [2]

Hello everyone~ I will be applying for the 2017 Korean Government Scholarship Program for Graduate Degree.

My english is not that good and it's my first time doing something like this so I was wondering if you could help me with it. I've already written it so I hope you can give me some suggestions about it or if there are any corrections to do.

Thank you in advance!

LETTER OF SELF - INTRODUCTION

I had a life experience when I was just a little girl where pneumonia led me to be hospitalized in the clinic. Actually, what I remember the most about it, besides the medication and the great support my family gave me, it is how my doctor was always with me, encouraging me at every moment, giving me his support. Those days when I felt devastated and with a lot of pain all over my body, he was always there giving me the assurance that everything would turn out well. I can proudly say that he was the one who transmitted me that desire to help and serve others. At that moment I realized that I also wanted to dedicate myself to that, to be able to help others not only with my knowledge but also being there for them. The career that allowed me to achieve all this was medicine, which keeps me close to people at all times. There is no greater reward in the world than being able to make someone smile when it is needed and make them feel better.

Once I started college, I tried my best to overcome all the obstacles that were presented to me. It was a new world for me as for the rest of my colleagues, we all had our ups and downs but perseverance led me to continue advancing every day and beyond this the passion and determination to achieve my goals no matter what it takes. Gradually with a lot of effort, dedication and love for what I do I was considered as an excellent student, my professors' advice and support were the engine that pushed me to move forward and led me to pursue my dream more intensely. During the process, I saw several of my colleagues fall, abandoning or repeating courses, but still I remained firm. Perhaps the first years were very hard but the gratification came during my clinical rotations when I had the opportunity to go to various hospitals across the city and interact directly with patients. I still remember the first time someone told me "thank you, doctor", that day was the best day of my life and helped me realized that this path was the one for me. The last year of my career, the internship, was the greatest year ever. I was able to put into practice everything I learned in 6 years of study, transforming all the knowledge gained into acts that helped improve the health of others. While I was doing my Pediatrics rotation, I had the opportunity to participate in a Medical Genetics conference that changed my life completely. I marveled at all those knowledge I did not know, all those rare diseases that were present in our day to day and no one even knew they could exist. Little by little I was attracted to that world, I felt like a voice was calling me, pointing out a new path for me. I have always been a very curious person and that helped me to contact other doctors closer to that branch, they told me that my curiosity and desire to learn were qualities that were no longer seen daily in an intern, which prompted me to follow. After a while, I realized that I could focus on Medical Genetics as a future specialty because it would not only satisfy my desire to discover and learn new things but also, my desire to help others who suffer from rare diseases.

Thanks to my good performance during my undergraduate and internship years, I managed to place myself within the upper third of the university, which also opened the doors to the work in which I am currently performing. Before graduating, I needed help developing a research protocol for one of my courses and that was when I contacted a professor I have known for a long time. He kindly guided me during the process and even congratulated me for the good quality of my work. After completing the protocol, he told me about the research center he had at his command and that he would be glad if I joined him. I got recruited in his research center as a sub-investigator in clinical trials which helps me to develop my research skills also needed in the field I want to work in, Medical Genetics.

My motivation to apply to this program is generated by my desire to continue my studies having a masters degree in the field of my interest. Some time ago I had the opportunity to review the case of a mother whose children suffered from a rare disease, which restricted their life to a few years. Unfortunately in our country we do not have the necessary technology nor the experienced professional since Genetics is not a very studied field. The impotence of being there and not being able to do anything was something that marked my life, at that time Genetics went from being a simple hobby to a vocation. That patient aroused in me that desire of wanting to help, to do something more, the desire to act and find some solution. With the help of this program I know that I can become a professional who will have the necessary skills and abilities to face those problems, helping people who need it and giving them better care with more information about their condition. Korea is known as one of the countries with the best technology and scientific advances in Asia, whose education system is of very high quality. I am sure that combining all the new knowledge that I can acquire and my desire to learn and improve, I will be able to fulfill all my goals and continue to help more people.

Scholarship / My plans for some years ahead after study in Korea [6]

Hi~ I'm applying to the KGSP scholarship and I have to write about the following: Future plan in Korea or another country after study in Korea.

I wrote like a little draft about it so I'd like to read all your suggestions, recommendations, critics, etc . Thanks in advance for all your help.

FUTURE PLAN

My professional future, upon culminating my master program in Korea, can be considered in two ways: stay in Korea and continue my education or continue my studies in another foreign country.

The first path is to become a medical resident in Korea itself, for which I must acquire the knowledge of the Korean language to the level required to practice the profession in the country. This must be achieved while my master's studies are in progress. Submitting to the necessary evaluations to revalidate my professional medical degree and later applying to the medical residency programs, which will allow me to practice medicine in Korea and become a Medical Genetics specialist. During my years of medical residency I will get the maximum knowledge both theoretical and practical, and the necessary contacts that will allow me to develop myself as a better professional in the field. This knowledge acquired in Korea will be of great use in my country and I intend to disseminate them in a university that welcomes me, it could be my alma mater or any other university that could be interested in it. My final purpose is to create a medical center that fulfills various functions such as genetic research, medical consultations, clinical laboratory and genetic counseling, and at the same time a medical center that has international connections that allow joint projects of high quality in genetics.

The second path is, with the knowledge acquired during the master program, to become a medical resident in the US or Canada as they have the specialty that interests me and a level of technology and knowledge in genetics similar to those that exist in Korea. Once I finish my residency, I will stay there while I acquire the experience and knowledge necessary to create and maintain a medical center specialized in genetics in my country.

All this will contribute to the achievement of one of my most desired aspirations both personal and professional, and to put at the service of my country all the knowledge that I may have acquired during my training and academic specialization.

Scholarship / My plans for some years ahead after study in Korea [6]

@Holt
thank you, I'll write another essay with all your recommendations. I have one question, can I say that if I can't revalidate my medical degree I'll go to another country for the residency program?

Scholarship / I was born and grown up in the northern country. 2017 Scholarship, Self-Introduction letter [11]

"It is my firm of believe that there is no necessity to be an a doctor to rescue people, but you just have to be a bit creative and have a desire to help." I also think you should not use this sentence in your essay because it is quite offensive to us, people with a medical degree hehe.

And you can talk more about your part-time job, like what is the name of the company you are working for, what do you do there, how is that helping you on your professional career, and things like that. I hope it helps! ^^

Scholarship / SOP. Goal of study, title or subject of research, and detailed study plan for KGSP Scholarship [2]

Hello again! I have to write about my study plan with the following: Goal of study, title or subject of research, and detailed study plan.

I've never done an study plan before so I'm not really sure if it's okay but I wrote a little draft about it. If it's too short please let me know. I hope you can help me with this essay as well and thanks for everything.

STUDY PLAN

Currently in the research center where I work I have the opportunity to interact constantly with a doctor specialist in pulmonology, who always tells me about international conferences in which he has participated and the various research topics that have been presented in them. One of the topics that caught my attention was Cystic Fibrosis, a multisystem disease caused by the mutation of a gene on chromosome 7, which is quite frequent in our country due to the great variety and mixture of ethnicities that we present.

During my years of master's study I would like to develop this topic and contribute to the related advances presented. According to studies and reports presented by Korean researchers, I have noticed that there are not many articles about Cystic Fibrosis as it is a rare disease in the Asian community. However, I am convinced that it would be very useful to develop new studies to be able to reaffirm the knowledge about this disease, to improve them and to have more revisions of it for future projects. I would like to, with the guide and help of my professors, carry out a research work of descriptive type in which we can observe more clearly the clinical manifestations and other findings that allow us to diagnose this disease early as it can sometimes be camouflaged like any other one. Due to the low incidence of this disease in Korea, this work will be a challenge that will undoubtedly leave us satisfied once it is concluded and published in the scientific community, contributing to the Korean population with a more detailed study of this rare disease.

In addition, I would like to obtain more knowledge about the diagnostic methods of genetic study in Cystic Fibrosis in order to be able to implement them or to accommodate them in some way to my country and thus have the best technology for the diagnosis. This knowledge would be of great importance in my country that has a greater incidence of this disease, to have within reach a definitive diagnostic method that supports and confirms the clinical and radiological suspicions of our specialist doctors would be of great help to our entire community.

Scholarship / 'I am a positive person' KGSP Application Letter of Self-Introduction: Assistance for Proofreading [6]

Hi, I think you should modify your first paragraph, do not talking too much about your current family situation (separation of your parents), instead of that you can talk about the positive things that helped you be the person who you are now. And also, I think you can give more specific reasons of why you choose Korea as your destination. By the way, I am quite confused about your bachelor degree, is it a degree of arts or economy? Sorry, I didn't get that part because I'm not used to that topic. If I got confused maybe the reviewer (if that person is not used to that topic either) will also be like me.

Hope it helps!

Scholarship / "Where there is will, there is a way" - my motto. Self introduction for KGSP [15]

@azaa1428
Hi! You should write it as a whole essay, like a text with 4 - 5 paragraphs so you can explain and develop each topic in a paragraph. In your education and work experience paragraph, you should write more about your bachelor degree, the awards you got while studying or any personal achievement. For example, you can write about the courses you took and which one had a major impact in your life that made you decide to take a master program. And also, don't forget about your work experience if you had any and explain how it helped you to be a better professional. For your reasons and motivations to apply, I think they are too general and not really related to the master program you want so maybe do some research about your major in Korea to complete those topics.

Hope it helps!
