So I know the deadline is in two days but I just found this website and I think the feedback people are getting is so helpful! Below are my replies to the NYU supplements please let me know if it's good enough for the admissions to like my application and thank you all very much!
Tell us why you have chosen the above campus (using a maximum of 700 characters-spaces and punctuation included).
What better place for me to foster my skills and knowledge in the communications and media field than the city distinguished as the communications capital of the world? While living in New York for 1 month last summer I fell in love, with the rush, the opportunities and the experiences it has to offer. As a cosmopolitan city with a status in theater, films, talk shows and other venues of media and communication, matched by only a handful of other cities,I am able to emerge a more independent and well-rounded character. Studying there means going out of my comfort zone, and embarking on a challenging journey, offering me endless chances of nurturing my capabilities.
A. NYU's global network provides students with hundreds of academic areas of interest for students to cultivate their intellectual curiosity and to help achieve their career goals. Whether you are entirely undecided about your academic plans or you have a definitive program of study in mind, what are your own academic interests? Feel free to share any thoughts on any particular programs or how you might explore those interests at NYU on any of our campuses.
As a child, I had a talent of communicating with people regardless of age, ethnicity, or gender. After constant hours spent conversing with others, I reached a realization that I am born to talk. Not only does it come to me naturally, but I also gain joy doing it. Ever since, my focus has been on exploring and promoting my passion for communicating and discovering where my academic interests lie. From my explorations, I learnt to appreciate the importance of this skill, that when used aptly could positively impact any community.
I am the type of person who has firm beliefs regarding issues such as human and animal rights, the environment, and social views. Combining my communicating abilities with my ideologies in the correct manner will drive me to achieve my ambitions of creating a better world. This is where NYU's education under Steinhardt's media, culture, and communications course, fits in. It comprises of a holistic approach into the major through focus on today's most influential communication form, along with global appreciation and cooperation, and shaping one's attitudes in approaching matters. To top that, NYU's location, diversity and hands on opportunities will leave me armed with the core elements of success to initiate the journey I hope to embark on as a communicator.
B. What intrigues you? Tell us about one work of art, scientific achievement, piece of literature, method of communication, or place in the world (a film, book, performance, website, event, location, etc.), and explain its significance to you.
"But Brutus is an honorable man!"
I was always intrigued by how well articulated words in a nicely structured train of thoughts enabled Anthony to move the masses from an extreme position of accepting Caesar's assassination to a completely opposing position of condemning the assassination and seeking Brutus and Cassius' capture. Considering that Anthony was the underdog in the events and took to stage after Brutus, having in mind the status of Brutus and his credibility at that time, Anthony must have had more stomach butterflies than I ever experienced, having to gamble his life and shoot his last bullet.
Discounting any exaggeration by Shakespeare, I have always respected and admired Anthony's prevailing capabilities as evidenced by what took place in the aftermath of the speech. My regard rose to new heights when I saw the speech performed in front of me at the school theater repeatedly while I rehearsed alongside a colleague for a major performance. This speech stands, not only as a constant reminder to me of the power language possesses when constructed effectively, but also, as an inspiration for me to always voice my beliefs, and overcome any obstacles or fears that I may stumble upon.
