Letters / Cover Letter : IT University of Copenhagen [3]

application for Bachelors in Data Science

Feb 09, 2018

International Admissions,
IT University of Copenhagen,
Copenhagen, Denmark.
Sir/Madam,
My name is Diwakar Adhikari and I am from Nepal. I have recently completed my high school and I would like to apply for Bachelors in Data Science in your University. From as long as I can remember I have always loved computers, especially the software bit. It's truly amazing how the combination of two simple binary numbers can produce such a wide array of possible outcomes. The limitless possibilities of programming have always fascinated me.

To be taught in one of the top IT institution world-wide with the best teaching faculty and research opportunities might be everyone's dream, but for me IT University of Copenhagen is much more than that. Apart from providing academic excellence, it will be my platform to engage and interact with a vast and diverse community of students. The Data Science Program course boosted by the opportunity to choose between two possible tracks will not only prepare me to become a better Computer Programmer/Analyst but also make me a sought-after person in the growing market of IT back in my country Nepal. The IT sector in Nepal is still at its infancy and one can see a plain shortage of well trained human resource in this sector. The positive progress in our political arena is now slowly changing the face of development and there is a huge shift from public to private management making a profound scope for everything be it health care, finance to education with reintroduction of IT interventions in each sector. A close look at the course structure and design made me realize that this course will prepare me for the first type of career, giving me all the skills I need to work as a data scientist in the competitive IT industry. Also, the current students' testimonials made me understand how the course allows us to focus on the practical applications of the learning. This would help me not only understand the concept but also give a deeper sense on how it would be applied. Another thing that attracted me to apply to your university was its outstanding student/faculty ratio.

I believe if we do what we love, we will never get tired and always keep growing. I have loved computers and software for as long as I can remember and as I grew up this passion just got stronger. Coding is my yang, I would love to pursue this same field as my career. I have also a few coding experiences in my kitty as a part of my volunteer work after my exams in some local NGOs and private IT institutes in Kathmandu. I am certain that my academic skills and extracurricular activities regarding programming will make me a valuable addition to the bachelors' program in Data science offered at the IT university of Copenhagen.

Thank you in advance for considering my application. I look forward for a positive response from you.
Best regards,
Diwakar Adhikari.

Undergraduate / Sharing a religious, cutural or family tradition - Colgate Prompt Short 250 word Essay [3]

@Holt
I've change my approach and ended up with a whole new essay , please do read it and suggest me which portion I should emphasize more since I do still have 30 words to play around with .

------
From a small-landlocked country full of rich cultural and ethnical diversity, "Nepal", I might not be able to share all my cultural experiences, but there is one specific tradition that sums up all my festive feeling that I would like to share with the Colgate Community.

Being the only "brother", in a large joint family with over 16 other siblings, "Bhai Tika" might just be the festival I look forward to the most. Celebrated during late October, this one specific occasion brings my entire family together every year, celebrating the warm and tender relationship between brothers and sisters. A scrumptious meal, Saptarangi (Seven-Colored) Tikas on the forehead, followed by gifts from brothers to their sisters, the whole ceremony revolves around affection and love.

Though this joyous occasion might seem limited within the family, over the years this tradition has grown to become a practice that brings a community closer. On the day of Bhai-Tika, even strangers without siblings gather in a common place and celebrate this event with same festivity ultimately bringing diverse communities together with the feeling of fraternity and love.

This simple festival brings a community closer, spreads the feeling of camaraderie and represents diversity of life. During my four-year journey in Colgate, I enthusiastically look forward to sharing this unique experience and bringing the Colgate community closer.

P.S (The deadline is day-after tommorow so I would like to make it as good as possible)

Through the exposition to ... Due to exposure to the world of business at an early age , I've gained a deeper perspective towards the subject

Undergraduate / Sharing a religious, cutural or family tradition - Colgate Prompt Short 250 word Essay [3]

CULTURE OF NEPAL

My homeland "Nepal" is a small landlocked central Himalayan country in South Asia. What it might lack in sheer size, it makes ups in vast cultural and traditional diversity which has evolved over the centuries. Though I might not possibly be able to share all my cultural experiences, there might be one specific tradition that sums up all my festive feelings that I can share with the Colgate Community.

"Bhai Tika" is a rich cultural festival that is celebrated during late October every year. On the day of the festival, sisters invite their brothers for a sumptuous meal. The whole ceremony signifies the duty of a brother to protect his sister, as well as a sister's blessings for her brother. On this day, sisters pray to Yamraj "God of Death" for her brother's long life and prosperity. Sisters put seven coloreds long Tika on the forehead of their brothers.

It might initially seem that it is limited to brothers and sisters, but over the years this practice has grown to symbolize love, that brings a community closer. Strangers without siblings gather in a place and celebrate this culture with same festivity and in the end, they gain a meaningful relation that remains for life.

This simple festival brings a community closer and spreads the feeling of brotherhood. During my four-year journey in Colgate, I enthusiastically look forward to sharing this culture and bringing the Colgate community closer.
