Scholarship / Mechanical Engineerin - GKS 2020 Scholarship Study plan (Embassy track) [3]

Dear all, I'm planning to apply for the Global Korea Scholarship next year and would appreciate it if you can help critique my study and future plan.

Thanks

o Goal of study, title or subject of research, and detailed study plan
o Future plan in Korea or another country after study in Korea

Goal of study & Study Plan

Advancing my career through enrolling for a Masters Programme in Mechanical Engineering in Korea is one thing I have earnestly craved for before and after my undergraduate programme. I am profoundly convinced that it is pivotal to the development and refining of the necessary skills I need in order to effectively contribute valuable knowledge that would further catalyze advancements in the field of Engineering in the world at large. Since Engineering also engages and focuses on research to build knowledge, facilitate learning and above all, find solutions to Engineering related problems, it is therefore profitable to embark on this current quest vehemently.

Furthermore, my preference for a Korean university is due to her rich research based curriculum and present world-class status in research development in the field of Engineering. It is an indisputable fact that in Korea, research in the field of Engineering is currently second to none. Remarkably, the economic growth which has been predicted to accelerate tremendously as a result of its increasing desire for technological advancement supported through funds, scholarships and others has created a conducive environment fit for students and young researchers like me in the field of Mechanical Engineering. These facts alone significantly serve as a huge source of motivation for me because I have a keen interest for research and I am inquisitive to learn new things.

As a student of Mechanical Engineering in a Korean university, I will provide research papers for publications which I am fully capable of doing. My research interests are namely: composite material, lightweight parts for vehicles and computational fluid dynamics. Thus, I will undertake and produce theses on composite materials in graduate school exploring its usefulness in many areas knowing how germane industries such as aerospace, automotive, marine, biomedical, construction and many others value excellent mechanical, chemical and physical properties in order to design more effective components. Producing a lightweight hybrid composite material that can be used by the aforementioned industries for the production of various components.

According to the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) programme structure, I am meant to take a Korean language course for a year to enable me communicate well with others and afterwards, start off my Masters Programme. I will review many literatures, compare various materials in order to select individual materials having the best thermal conductivity, tensile strength, and electrical conductivity etc., and conclude on the analysis to be performed. Once the proposal is granted, I will carry out the experiment in the laboratory by researching for a way to combine the materials to produce a lightweight composite material for the industry.

In the context of Nigeria, there are lots of raw materials resources such as aluminum, coal, silica sand, clay, granite, limestone and many others unexplored as a result of lack of enough technical know-how and the ignorance of their uses such as in producing composite materials that can help change the nature and course of production. Hence, I will use the research knowledge gained in Korea to ensure there is a proper and adequate exploration of our raw materials in order to improve the quality of materials used in manufacturing industries.

Writing Feedback / The development of online courses is negative or positive? [6]

Great write up!
Observations
1. Your introduction is good enough
2. "Learning online means students not only may not have opportunities to face-to-face contact with teachers in a classroom on a regular basis but also have to rely on automatic content." - this looks too ambigious, i suggest you simplify it.

3. "For example, whereas students attending traditional classes have" - i think you meant to say "where" not "whereas". Kindly see to this.

4. "peers and even discuss with their classmates about specific issues of the lessons or part of subjects of their assignment, online learners are restricted by the chatting areas or website." - i feel there should be " but" immediately after the comma connecting assignment and online learners. - "assignment, but online learners"

Scholarship / Personal statement for GKS 2020 via embassy track (Msc. Mechanical Engineering) [3]

Hi everyone, I'm planning to apply for the Global Korea Scholarship next year and would appreciate it if you can help critique my personal statement.

Thank you!

GLOBAL KOREA SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION ESSAY

Coming from a third-world background where getting to further my education in a well-developed country where I will have an international experience and exposure is not affordable due to the financial constraints of my sponsors, I am delighted that the Global Korean Scholarship (GKS) would make achieving this big dream seamless and provide the opportunity to experience what I have always wanted to do in the field of Engineering. I like a competitive environment because it will help me be the best version of myself by fostering the innate creativity and innovation within me. Hence, studying in Korea would afford me this privilege.

A couple of years ago, while I was interning as an undergraduate student in an automobile company
where I worked mainly on cars and learned how to identify and fix mechanical faults in them, I was given a car to diagnose by my supervisor. Of course, I took up the task diligently and enthusiastically, though I was a bit nervous initially because it was his first time delegating that kind of a work to me purposefully. I diagnosed the car and got fault codes which I analysed based on my knowledge and experience with car scanning. The car I worked on was a Toyota Camry. After analysing and interpreting the fault codes, I discovered that one of the car sensors was bad and I had to solve the problem by changing the sensor which was causing the car's dashboard to display a malfunction indication light. It was the oxygen sensor that got bad and I took a spanner to remove and fix it. Igniting the car engine again, the previously indicated light on the dashboard went off and the car fault was gone. My supervisor was stunningly impressed. Afterwards, I realised that I could tackle and solve more Engineering related problems once the principles and the operation of it are well understood. I was happy that I solved the problem even without any supervision.

Solving a problem through troubleshooting has been something I love doing and have always derived joy in providing solutions to mechanical problems.

During my undergraduate study, I took many courses in Engineering and they have helped to structure my thinking, refine my approach and improve my problem solving skills. I found courses like Automotive Engineering, Thermodynamics, and Fluid Mechanics useful during my internship program at the automobile company. I can remember trying to relate what I learned in my Automotive Engineering classes with what I was doing practically during the period of training and since then, I have begun to appreciate Engineering the more because it is real to me and craftily practical. Without a doubt, I know there is still more for me to learn as the field of Mechanical Engineering is concerned, and going for a graduate study is a good avenue to meet this goal and help achieve my dream of providing solutions to many problems in the Engineering field.

In conclusion, apart from the fact that diligence and hard work, filial piety, and humbleness are
characteristics respected and expressed by Koreans, Korea has one of the highest literacy rates in the world. I have a flair for learning more about different cultures of the world especially the exceptionally unique Korean culture. It will help me see the world in a more balanced view and will broaden my paradigm about nations and people. I look forward to learning about the language, dressing, meals, celebrations, marriage, family structure and other core values of Korea experientially
