As a Irish-Filipino-American, commonly mistaken as a Mexican, nothing interests me more than America's progress to a world in which race and ethnicity will not matter.

In my social studies classes, I have been most intrigued by the lessons on racial issues due to racial profiling and scientific studies discussing inferior races. These topics have opened my eyes to the great impact ideological hegemony has had on Amercia.

During my junior year, when I studied the end of WWI, my teacher introduced eugenics. At first, I thought it was just some crazy science that Hitler began to practice in his later career to create an Aryan race in Europe. However, in class I discovered how so many Americans strongly believed in Charles Davenport's work. Beginning his work as a biologist, Davenport diverted his studies to genetics as the main influence behind the sterilization of thousands in America and as a strong influence for an ideological foundation for the Holocaust. As a country created by immigrants, the rise of eugenics erupted an entire belief system in which For years, eugenicists "sterilized" Americans they believed to be "unfit". In 1927, the Supreme Court even allowed Virginia to sterilize those they believed as unfit in the case Buck v. Bell.

Reflecting back between the present and our country's past, I realize how little we've really come from racial prejudices beginning in our country's birth. From unjustified slavery to a well-supported science based on little scientific face to Affirmative Action to constantly checking boxes identifying myself to a ethnicity and all those in between, society has done little to solve the problem, but provide different ways to address the issue.

Undergraduate / NYU PERSONAL STATEMENTS , Major and Famous New Yorker [4]

"After having a walk in Central Park, Later I would challenge him in a game of Golf where he could tell me more about his experience."--not sure if you took out a phrase, but take out Later.

I like your second prompt, but is there a greater connection to Yemen, it feels as if you could replace Yemen with any country.

Undergraduate / Stacy London, NYU Supplement - Famous New Yorker. [5]

I like your first prompt. It's very concise and to the point.

For your second prompt, maybe I'm just looking into it too much, but I think this sentence "In a final attempt to fix the broken relationship, the forty-year-old linguist will put his skills to the test on a world trip with his passing father." is a little unclear. You're skills as a linguist will help mend the ties with your father?

Undergraduate / NYU Supplements: spend one day with a famous New Yorker - F. Scott Fitzgerald [4]

Hey thanks to anyone who's willing to read this. Criticism and thoughts are well appreciated

If you had the opportunity to spend one day in New York City with a famous New Yorker, who would it be and what would you do? (Your New Yorker can be anyone -past or present, fictional or nonfictional - who is commonly associated with New York City; they do not necessarily have to have been born and raised in New York.)

F. Scott Fitzgerald, author of The Great Gatsby

Although spending the day in current New York would be amazing, I would forever treasure the opportunity to travel back to the roaring twenties and personally experience grand carefree lifestyles Fitzgerald eloquently portrays in his novel. In one day, I would experience the carefree lavish lifestyle as well as discuss with Fitzgerald his ability to capture the entire essence of a decade--prohibition, eugenics, evolving role of women, and the rise of industrialism--all in less than 200 pages.

Write a haiku, limerick, or short (eight lines or less) poem that best represents you.

In the year 2050, a movie is being made of your life. Please tell us the name of your movie and briefly summarize the story line.

Irishino:Irish+Filipino The movie follows a girl born from parents both coming from historically rich cultures, yet identifying with none. From students recognizing her as Mexican to the endless array of boxes she must check to identify her race, Irishino reflects the ongoing racial issues in America by the constant uses of ideological hegemony by capitalism and white supremacy to dissociate from who you are to become who they want you to be. Ultimately, alluding to an America without race.

Please tell us what led you to select your anticipated academic program and/or NYU school/college, and what interests you most about your intended discipline.

I intend to study Sociology in the College of Arts and Science. Situated at the heart of one of the greatest cities in the entire world, I believe NYU is the best place to learn how social interactions and structures shape society.
