Letters / 'The dress, a generious gift' - FCE Writing task thank you letter [3]

Topic: Write a letter to thank someone for a birthday present which has come just at the right time and pleases you very much.
Dear Nga,
I would like to thank you for the generous gift. I am so glad that you spent time choosing such a wonderful gift for me. The dress you bought is truly one of the most lovely gifts I have ever received. And the most wonderful thing is that it has just come this morning, on this special day. What a nice surprised!

It is difficult for me to find the words to express my gratitude. The dress is really a perfect thing. Its style and colour suit me well. I truly fell in love with it just as I opened it.

Once again, thank you for the wonderful present. It really made my birthday a special and happy one.
Yours sincerely,
Please help me check this task! Editing is highly appreciated!

Undergraduate / 'countless adults and teens + My Tia Gema' - essay (impact/important person) [2]

...From her stories, she has molded me into the person she always wanted to be; educated, bilingual, and determined. Recently, my Tia Gema has just graduated in engineering at college two years ago . Although she had to pause her educated, she still continued when hard times were with her. Recently,And my Tia Gema graduated in engineering at college two years ago. Listening to her stories, I am inspired to just keep going, even when times get tough for me.

My Tia Gema is also a good cook. When she would come over to the house and babysit me and my brothers, she would make us the most delicious dishes...

I think this sentence " I'm privaleged enough to know how to cook for myself because compared to myself, my friends don't cook at all for themselves or their family, so once I'm on my own, my cooking skills will come in handy." should be replaced with something like"It is thanks to her that I fell in love with cooking..."

Undergraduate / 'My mom' - my commonapp essay about who had impact on ur life [3]

My Mom

When I saw this topic, delineating the most influential person in my life, I thought over and over again. Many great figures had surfaced in my mind. The genius stockbroker Ivan Boesky and Carl Icahn, the former showed me how to release the beast of greed inside ourselves and the later demonstrated the amazing tricks in security and fund management; the ancient philosopher Confucius whose wisdom advised on my behavior. Those personalities had, have and will always have startling impact on my ideology, behaviors and spirit. However when I tried to write about any one of them, I realized their impact is pertinent to only one or few aspects of my growth. There should be one person whom I have missed, but who have always been the essential part of my livelife . I think that person should be my mother.

Since the day I started remembering something, I was carried in her arms, listening to her whispering verse and poem. The actual scene on that day was already blurred, but the poem and mom's lovely smiles wereare still fresh in my mind. I was growing under my mother's pamper.

My mom has a strong sense of responsibility over my education. Since I was young, she tried to impart me with words of wisdom. Every Friday night, my family would stay together and watched some documentaries about important historic figures or events. I still remembered the first documentary I ever watched was about Wall Street's financiers and bankers. After seeing the video, she told me that "No matter what you want to be in the future, you should always have a dream. Even if your dream is too peculiar and impossible to achieve, you should strive and try to get it. Then your existence has some meaning. Mom will always support you." Through 6 years of Friday-documentary time, I have come to value what I have learnt about world history, politics and culture, as well as my family and myself. In addition, I appreciate Ivan Boesky's claim "I think greed is healthy. You can be greedy and still feel good about yourself" the most. Everyone has the beast of greed, it is the prime motive for improvement and progress.

My mom's words could always be counted on . She promised that she would support my dream, she really did so. No matter what kind of decision I made, she supported without any compromises. She never intervened in my decision-making, but warned that I should be responsible for my own choices and never regret for any decisions made. I was a grown-up man, since young.

There is definitely no doubt ofabout how much my mom loves me, but her love never guides me to the wrong road. My family is very traditional, soin which every family member is bound to certain codes and values, among which integrity and courage are the most praised among those values . As a ten- year- old boy , I lied to my mom about my test scores in fear of being punished by the bad scores . Mom looked into my eyes, and gave a slap on the face. She knew I was lying. Without further to saying a word , she walked away and never spoke to me the entire day. I could sense the disappointment on her face. I made a great mistake. Scores and grades could be made up by hard work. If one's integrity is flawed, the stain would never be cleaned.

Mom's love is so great that I could never pay back. She may be an ordinary Chinese housewife just as other millions in someone's perspective, but she is the greatest in my eyes.

Writing Feedback / A passage about some measures to protect endangered animals [4]

Good evening, Gloria.
Please help me check this essay out.
"Topic: Write a passage about some measures to protect endangered animals.
As you know, animals play an important part in our environment. They help maintain the biodiversity in nature. Today many animal species, however, are in danger of extintion. The reason causing the decrease in the number of animals is mainly from human beings. It is high time we must take some measures to protect endangered animals.

Firstly, we should educate people from the young age about the importance of wild animals in maintain the ecosystem and biodiversity. Young people should be educated how to protect our environment in general and how to protect endangered animals in particular. They should be told about the things that threat the safety of wildlife so that they can avoid doing them. This should be included in their curriculum at school.

Secondly, the governments all over the world should set up national parks and wild-life preserves as many as possible. Thanks to these places, animals will have a suitable habitat to survive and good conditions to grow and multiply. There they can be kept in a natural and safe environment.

Last but not least, each nation must enforce stricter law with more serious punishment- capital punishment, for example- to prevent people from poaching rare and valuable animals.

In general, protecting wild animals is not a person's work but it needs the solidarity of human beings all over the world. I should think each of us has the responsibility for protecting and saving endangered species before it is too late."

Letters / Letter about "My most unhappy experience" - party at Jane's house [NEW]

Good evening, Gloria.
Please help me check this letter out.

"Dear Mary,
How have you been doing? I'm terribly sorry for my late reply. I'm a little busy with my lessons. I am trying my best to get as many good marks in English as possible. You think that sounds strange, don't you? But my determination is related to one of my most unhappy experiences. Let me tell you about it.

It happened on a Sunday night 2 months ago when I was preparing for my English test. It was 7 p.m and I still had a lot of lessons to learn before taking that test. Then Peter and Ann, my best friends, came. They told me there was a party at Jane's house and they asked me to join them. I enjoy parties so much and I like Jane, too. So I decided to go with them, leaving the lessons behind. At that time, I thought that it was the best decision I had ever made because I really had a lot of fun at Jane's party and didn't regret going there. When I got home, I was too tired to revise my lessons. I went to bed without hesitation.

The morning after was the most terrible time for me. I hadn't revised my lessons yet, so I did the English test badly. I got mark 3 for that test. That was so bad because it was the worst mark I had ever got. I burst to tears right after I received my test back. At this time I really regretted going to Jane's party. If only time could have gone back to the night before!

After school, I went home. When I saw my parents, I felt so ashamed of myself that I couldn't say a word. I promised myself that I would never let anything like this happen. From then on, I always prepare my lessons carefully before school and revise them deeply before taking tests.

What about you? Have you got any unforgettable experience that you would like to share with me? Write to me soon. I'm looking forward hearing from you.

Yours,
Rose"

Thanks.
