Undergraduate / "implementing statistics" - Mac Hs - Research area that should be funded [4]

What area of research should not be funded and why? <1500 Characters>

Why do we fund research to begin with? A cardinal impulsive force must exist that compels us to do so. Most logically it is our desire to find the truth and produce new knowledge. Any area of research that produces knowledge already obtained or which leads to incomplete or false knowledge is worthless and should not be funded. In all of my experiences this area has been studies chiefly based on statistics. While statistics can prove useful on many occasions it is often misused, misleading and meaningless. There are several methods in which accidentally or for the gain of the perpetrator false information can be produced by implementing statistics. For example, a tooth paste company funds a statistical study to convince buyers that their tooth paste whitens teeth. Coincidentally, 9 out of the 10 people who were surveyed report that indeed the paste did so. This statistic would leave people believing that the paste actually works, when the researchers could have simply selected 10 people with already white teeth. Other such studies conclude that one variable causes the change in another just because a correlation exist between the two. These false statistics, believed by many can be quite detrimental in the quest for the truth and new knowledge. Instead of funding statistical studies such as these the money should be spent on controlled experiments that produce results that are both precise and accurate. Only then could the results be established as the truth and new knowledge.

Undergraduate / "as humans we really don't know what is really out there" - most challenging idea [4]

What idea most challenges me? Kinda redundant IMO. It's like asking 'what do u want for breakfast?' and replying 'What do I want for breakfast? I want blah, blah blah".

Essentially, what really are black holes, dark matter? Could there be life on other planets, on Mars or even the Moon? I wouldn't get into specifics like that. I bet there are scientists that know precisely what black holes are. And could there be life on other planets? Yes... that's already been proven.

Socially, what actually defines us as human beings? What really is the meaning of life? Is ignorance really bliss? Do the laws of physics really apply to EVERYONE? Is Sasquatch real? Where is Waldo? Don't get carried away. And stop answering the question with more questions.

History is written written by those who have won. Then what is fact and what is hyperbolic fiction? Did Lee Harvey Oswald actually assassinate JFK? Did the Trojan War occur? Did Nero burn Rome? Did Caesar really whisper "Et tu Brute" before he died? Are all men created equal; or are some more equal than others? As tears flood my eyes, why did the holocaust happen; what is the justification for slavery?

Is Dwight Howard really superman and is LeBron James really the King? Whatever happened to OJ Simpson?
Will I get into Wake Forest University?
More questions? And don't expect the reader to get all your references.

I would scrap it and start over. Try answering the question.

Undergraduate / "UNDO" - Mac HS - 4 Letter Word [4]

Select a four letter word in the English language which should be expunged and explain why.

The word 'undo' is primarily employed in statements of regret. It indicates that one covets to travel to an earlier period of their life and alter certain actions in order to ameliorate their present state. Alas, the past cannot be rewritten. It is impossible to reverse one's errors, and no gain exists in expending a great deal of time regretting them. For instance, I did not play well in the first game of a recent provincial chess championship. Following the match my mind was filled with the moves that had caused my loss. I sat there wishing to undo my moves instead of spending time preparing for the following match. Did this better my outcome? Of course not. Consequently, it exacerbated the situation by clouding up my mind and preventing me from cogitating on future matches of the tournament. As opposed to dwelling upon past mistakes and desiring to undo them, one has to move forward, while managing time effectively with the knowledge and confidence gained from past experiences. These experiences are great milestones on one's life long journey and can greatly assist in solving any future difficulties. As Winston Churchill points out, "The farther back you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see." The purpose of all words is to enable humans to question, think critically, learn and as a result advance in life. The word, 'undo' does the opposite; it creates a state of deep regret and prohibits any progress from being made.

Thanks a lot for the help. I welcome all critique as to how I can improve.
