Writing Feedback / College Journal - English Class / Society Living [NEW]

Plz Help to Revise These Two Journals. Thank you!

1) The English-121 is my first course that taken in college. Even though I have taken AP courses before, I still feel something differences when taking this real college level course.

As every first class in high school, the process of the first class here is almost the same: instructor distributes the syllabus and policy of this course, as well as explains the details to us. Before we introduce ourselves to classmates, my instructor, Ms. Arney introduces her to us first. I am glad that I have a newspaper writer who is from the famous Baltimore Sun as a teacher to teach me how to write, since I was a magazine editor in my high school, but never have the opportunity to be coached by a professional writer. I think a professional writer may have a different way from a regular teacher to teach English like those are in high school. I am eager for my classes in the future.

It is our turn to introduce us. After everyone is done, I found that there are different kinds of students are sitting in a classroom, which differs from high school. Some of them are from high school, like me, some of them are college students, and some of them even already have full time jobs. I think these diverse groups can bring various opinions and ideas to the classroom because all of us have different experiences. Therefore, this special diversity will create a nice atmosphere in an English class.

I enjoy the first college class here. I think the three months will make me have a further understanding in English writing.

2) Living in the society, we learn things from reading in many circumstances. Reading is an important way of getting information from the outside unknown world. We read text books to help us understand what instructors teach; we read reference books to answer our why-questions; we read articles in newspaper and magazines to view others' opinions; also, now more and more people use internet to search information they need. Obviously, all these are involved in reading.

As the book The Presence of Others says, reading and thinking critically. This can help me to increase the efficiency of reading; especially I am thinking while reading. For instance, in my American Government class, sometimes I am assigned to read a critical cartoon; in order to accomplish that, not only should I read the picture, but also understand what is the purpose of the author creating this picture; so it requires more information that I should know, such as what events that relate to this cartoon, what are the personalities of people in this cartoon, as well as the decorations in this picture since they are usually act as different kinds of symbols.

I remember when I was tired but still tried to read, in this situation I read word by word without thinking because I could not concentrate myself. After one day, I could hardly remember what I read. This shows how important the book teaches me about thinking and reading. Thinking and Reading critically can always insure us to reach our purposes of reading.

Scholarship / Howard Community College, Essay for scholarship application [2]

This is an essay for scholarship application, could anyone help me to revise it, please?
Thank you

6:45 pm, after I said the last "goodbye" to my mother, I walked into airport lounge.
7:00 pm, the KE968 flight took off. From this second, I left the place I had lived for seventeen years.
I saw an air stewardess hanging a "Merry Christmas" decoration in the cabin wall. Christmas came. Even though that was in China, western culture was gradually merged into this traditional country. Families became accustomed to reunite on Christmas holidays; everyone else on this plane was going home, but me. I left my mother and was en route to another side of the world.

Now I have not seen my mother a year already. Every friend of mine here has his or her mother to be with. I always "complain" this to my mother when I call her overseas. When someone's mother treats me like treats her daughter, I always feel thankful to her, and I start to miss my own mother. I envy my friends. I tell my mother. I would say how unfair it is for me now; I would go to the airport to buy a ticket and back to my country; I would tell her I should stay with her, but I did not. Even though my mother is far away from me, I can always feel her love. Even though she can not support me everything in my life, she gives me the important thing - my heart. Daughter's heart comes from a part of mother's heart, an old Chinese maxim says.

Why I can still smile in front of the world; why I can still enthusiastically strive for my dream, because of my mother. Life is about choices. My mother has given me the opportunity to either choose to enhance my future, or stay stagnates. Although the sacrifice is great, I have chosen to enhance my education. Although China offers a rigorous educational system, the American education is more appealing to a student. We are encouraged to expand our horizons, and to learn outside of the textbook world. We are taught to use what we learn in the classroom and to apply it to our daily lives.

My mother has given me an opportunity to choose. And I've chosen to be the best student I can be. Even though my days are challenging, and at times I ask myself why life must be so hard at the age of eighteen, I remember my mother's loving eyes and remember the choice I've made - the responsibilities I've taken on. Howard Community College is a prestige school with great diversity. This institution offers not only a strong education opportunity, but also the opportunity to grow as an Asian American woman through cultural diversity and sense of community.

Undergraduate / 'A Night Classes program' - college application short response [5]

Thank you for anyone that helps me about my college application. The due day is tomorrow...

Question: In the space provided below, please describe which of these activities has had the most meaning for you, and why.

I was elected as the president of the class of 2007 in high school. My job was to supervise students as they participated in school and community activities and to coordinate teachers that give students academic helps. I organized the 2005 New Year's Overnight Carnival and assisted members of my class to participate in the 2005 High School Art Festival, the 2005 High School Sports Meeting, the 2005 High School Debate Contest, and the 2005 High School Fashion Show. I also established a strong friendship between students in my high school and the Children in Laurel Orphanage. Moreover, I have successfully coordinated with teachers to develop a Night Classes program which had given extra help for many students who were struggling in their schoolwork. As president, my leadership skills have been accelerated. Nowadays leadership is more important than many other skills for a person. I am glad that I developed this skill in high school that will be helpful for me when I go to college. I contacted with many people and listened to many opinions when I was a president. I found that listening can provide a good leadership. So, being a good listener is an important skill to survive in a college. In classes, I listen to professor; when communicate with classmates, I listen to their opinions. Listening means thinking, since I can analysis what others think; listening means speaking, in order to let people listen to me, I should be a good listener first; listening means learning, since I can learn from others speeches. College is a place where I prepare myself for this small community and in future for the larger world.
