Writing Feedback / TOEFL:Government should spend more on early education than on college education [4]

i will appreciate the adive you give to me!

Education has now become the nation's concern. Some people argue that government should focus its budgets on young children's education rather than universities. I concede that young children's education largely relies on government's budget. However, university education needs more financial aid to maintain high-standard education and build school facilities.

To begin with, universities have to hire top scholars and professors in different fields to guarantee the quality of education. A good and outstanding professor often demands a high salary, therefore salaries of the staff take up most part of a university' budget. Take my school for example, especially the academy I am studying in. Our academy has to pay large amount of money to hire professors who graduated from Yale, Brown, Cornell and other world-famous colleges. They do have some excellent teaching skills, which makes classes interesting and students can understand the topic that the professor is talking about easily. Professor Song, a teacher of economics, is my favorite teacher. Once when he talked about marginal utility, he gave his lecture in a funny and well-organized way by using a example about eating apples. I still remember this easy but meaningful example because it helps me form a vivid image of marginal utility, which is a important term in economics.

Secondly, school instruments, crucial in the university education, are costly. A peaceful environment plays an essential role in a student's academic development. Universities must build large libraries to accommodate students as well as books and hundreds of advanced computers are needed to search for information on the Internet. Students also need to read some latest books or magazines to keep themselves informed of what is going on in the world. Journals, such as Econometrica, American Economic Review and Journal of Political Economy, provide a way for students to read these and do cutting-edge research. Dining hall or cafeteria and dormitories are also important because they meet students' basic needs. Sports center, in which students can play various kinds of sports, such as tennis, swimming, volleyball and so on.

Admittedly, early education needs huge investment. Classrooms, playgrounds, and bus service add up to big money. According to a research conducted by a famous agency, the average cost of building a primary school is twenty or thirty thousand dollars. However, this does not mean that college education takes the second place. Early education can rely on donations from wealthy individuals or large corporations since there are more and more private schools today.

To conclude, although schools for children need budgets to improve the study environment, college education, considered as the elite's education, need more to guarantee the quality of teaching and offer adequate facilities to students. Thus the government, with a limited budget, should put priority to college education.

Writing Feedback / TOEFL:It is only worth watching movies that can teach us something about real life [4]

People nowadays have various preferences about movies. Some people are addicted to comedies and sci-fi movies while others are attracted by serious movies that can teach them something about real life. From my perspective, although the serious movies do bring some benefits, it does not mean that they are the only kind of movies that are worth watching. The film industry can be added variety, thanks to Cartoon films and sci-fi movies that entertain us in different ways, and they also deserve our appreciation.

Admittedly, people can learn a lot about real life from serious movies. For instance, a student, who fails the physics exam, in a bad mood may feel better after watching the Forrest Gump, in which he learns the importance of optimism and persistence from the classical lines "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are gonna get". And the student could become positive and continue to make progress in the near future. However, to say that serious movies are the only type of movies worth watching is an overstatement.

Firstly, if audiences are offered only one movie type, they would be unwilling to buy movie tickets, which takes a toll on the whole industry and even finally lose their interest in movies. Consequently, it gives rise to the huge economic losses and severe destruction on the industry. According to the latest report released by China Film Group Corporation (CFGC), only 2 percent of the movies in 2010 are serious movies and it is estimated that the industry would lose about 1.2 billion dollars if providing serious movies only.

Besides, there are plenty of excellent movie types, such as comedies and sci-fi flicks, which are also worth watching. They provide a temporary escape from the brutal reality for viewers and give us a way to relax. Mr. Bean is a case in point. Every time I see Mr. Bean play jokes on others or gets himself into trouble, I always burst out laughing. Sci-fi flicks help us think of innovations. Take the famous movie Star Wars for example. The hero uses a laser sword to fight with evil creatures and finally guarantee the security of the Milky Way galaxy. Those advanced technology used in sci-fi movies gives us an incentive to invent new things to make our life easier and more comfortable, also provides new ways to solve problems and teaches us to think in a brand-new perspective.

To sum up, it is inappropriate to assert that serious movies are the only ones worth watching since its drawbacks is far outweighing the merits it brought to us. In addition, another two types of movie, comedies and sci-fi flicks are of equal importance to our lives.

Writing Feedback / TOEFL: best way to improve the quality of education is to increase teachers' salaries [5]

People usually believe that teachers have the most important job in all of the society. They raise children to be forward-thinking, intellectual individuals. They ensure that children work as a team and get along well with each other. Because of the importance of education, some people argue that to improve the quality of education is to increase teachers' salaries. I can hardly agree with this statement though it contains a grain of truth.

Admittedly, increasing teachers' salaries will boost teacher's enthusiasm and devotion. A survey, carried out by a Chinese educational administration, shows that more than 70 percents of teachers in university put their extra money in the stock market. It is quite possible that the teachers are too concerned about whether they can make money in the stock market which distracts their attention from their teaching job. So increasing teachers' salaries would probably stop the situation from bad to worse and get teachers' enthusiasm back to what they should do. However, the schools have to raise the tuition fees for education in order to pay their teachers. Thus, those talented students from poor families cannot afford the fee to study in school. In addition, less money can be used to improve school facilities, such as libraries, stadium and students center and do scientific research. Also, more pressure would be put on the government with the limited budget spent on education.

Besides increasing teachers' salaries, there are other alternative ways to improve the quality of education. School instruments, for example, labs, libraries and dormitories, could be improved in order to provide a suitable environment for students to study in. For instance, recently my school updates the software in the public computers and expands the capacity of the libraries. Therefore, I could easily find the books that I need to do write a thesis and with the SPSS, a kind of software used for statistical analysis, I could get some inspiring discoveries by analysis the data I have collected.

Furthermore, raising teachers' status is superior to increasing their salaries, because teachers today are not short of money in some degree, what they really lack is social values. If people treat them not as ordinary teachers, but honorable educators, it will provide more incentives for teachers to teach students in an active way. Therefore, raising teachers' status, which is a satisfaction spiritually, plays a vital role in improve the quality of education.

To sum up, although increasing teachers' salaries is considered as a effective way, improving equipment and raising teachers' status are of equal importance in enhancing the quality of education.
