Undergraduate / 'I can earn a degree in Marketing' - reasons you want to attend Virginia Tech? [4]

One of the main reasons I wish to attend Virginia Tech is that with The Pamplin College of Business I can earn a degree in Marketing from one of the nation's 50 best business schools. Also the 16:1 student-faculty ratio is something that will make academic life better for me, as there will be enough staff attention in the classroom and less student distraction. I currently go to a small high school so I know the good that can come from being able to have one on one time with a teacher. Another reason is the location of Virginia Tech, Blacksburg has been consistently ranked among the country's best places to live and is known for its award winning services, a reasonable cost of living, safety, moderate climate, and abundant leisure activities. The diversity of Virginia Tech is another reason I would like to attend the University. The community is one that makes it clear they welcome diversity and hope to develop and sustain one. This to me is a great thing because a diverse community is excellent for a learning environment. When Virginia Tech comes to mind I automatically think about the many times I've been driving with my dad in Virginia and have seen almost every car pass by with a Virginia Tech logo on it. The Hokie spirit astonishes me and gives me a sense of confirmation in knowing that Virginia Tech will be like a huge family I would be honored to be a part of.

Undergraduate / 'Diverse community and the amount of learning one can receive' - VTECH 250 [3]

What do you consider the greatest benefit(s) of a diverse educational community?
The greatest benefits of a diverse educational community come from the amount of learning one can receive. Being surrounded by a diverse educational community provides a learning experience like no other. You are able to learn new things from classmates and professors that come from all different types of backgrounds. Which makes someone culturally rounded which is a great tool to have in this world. For me personally I was not surrounded by a diverse educational community while growing up but this allowed me to realize what I wanted in life. I lacked a diverse educational community that would have brought me different people, cultures, languages, and more. I grew up going to schools that were mainly made up of minorities which didn't leave room to learn about other cultures. As I started to grow up and meet people outside of school I realized there were people of all different cultural backgrounds who you could learn so much from. Meeting new people made me become an opened minded individual which is something everyone should be. When people aren't placed in a diverse educational community often at times they become closed minded and begin to judge others easily. I would be a great contribution to a diverse educational community bringing in my own diversity and knowledge I have obtained from others.

Please give me feedback on what I can do/change to improve it.

Undergraduate / 'how diverse I actually am' - William and Mary supplemental [13]

Is this better?

(Singing) "He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar. The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star. He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do" I look at my friends who both look at each other and shake their heads and start laughing. They go on to ask me if I am seriously singing a Taylor Swift song right now and I nod and smile and keep singing along. When you ask most people what type of music they like to listen to they usually answer with one genre, well I'm not most people. I like to listen to every type of music, if you look in my iPod you can see anything ranging from Drake to Lady Antebellum. I see my selection of music as a perfect representation of the type of person I am. Not many people are aware of how diverse I actually am. Not only am I diverse because of my background, being Puerto Rican and African American, but I'm also diverse as an individual. I have friends of all different types, some that might be considered the "popular kids" and others that can be considered "nerds." To me it doesn't matter what type of category they fit in if I get along with them and enjoy spending time with them I will be more than happy to consider them my friends. To me I don't feel like I am are hanging out with "cliques" instead, I feel immersed in my entire community. I think the reason I am able to get along with people from different groups is because of my personality. I am the type of person that likes to make everyone happy and feel comfortable. Even though I love to have a good time I consider myself mature for my age which I think is one of the reasons I can get along with others.

Do you think it would be good if I mentioned how I went to schools that were mostly populated with Hispanics and that I strayed from the norm and tried to find things that i enjoyed and made me who I am?

Undergraduate / We are so small but yet so powerful. Common App essay! [16]

Great essay the only thing I would change is when you say "The girl, who was name Xinxin, was apparently one of my mom's former patients." Apparently sounds awkward I would just delete it from the sentence. Besides that it is great. Good Luck!

Undergraduate / 'Not going to keep playing violin anymore' - U-Penn [10]

This was a really well written piece I wouldn't change anything about it. I agree with what nkprasad12 mentioning the professor will definitely give you a leg up in the admissions process.

I would greatly appreciate it if you read my William and Mary piece and gave me feedback. Please and Thank You

Beyond your impressive academic credentials and extracurricular accomplishments, what else makes you unique and colorful?

We know that nobody fits neatly into 500 words or less, but you can provide us with some suggestion of the type of person you are. Anything goes! Inspire us, impress us or just make us laugh. Think of this optional opportunity as show and tell by proxy and with an attitude, but please restrict your submission to what will fit on one sheet of paper.

Not many people are aware of how diverse I actually am. Not only am I diverse because of my background, being Puerto Rican and African American, but I'm also diverse as an individual. When you ask most people what type of music they like to listen to they usually answer with one genre, well I'm not most people. I like to listen to every type of music, if you look in my iPod you can see anything ranging from Drake to Taylor Swift. My friends laugh at me when were sitting down at a restaurant and a Justin Bieber song comes on and I know all the words and can sing along to it. I see my selection of music as a perfect representation of the type of person I am. I have friends of all different types, some that might be considered the "popular kids" and others that can be considered "nerds." I believe that not one person should be an outcast and that everyone should be treated equal. Please give me feedback I would greatly appreciate it. Should I expand on anything or delete anything? How can I improve it?
