Undergraduate / USF supplement ESSay ("to promote learning in the Jesuit Catholic tradition [6]

The core mission of the University of San Francisco is to promote learning in the Jesuit Catholic tradition so that students acquire the knowledge, skills, values and sensitivities they need to succeed as persons, professionals and architects of a more humane and just world.

Please tell us about yourself and how you will help the University to carry out its mission. For more information, please see: usfca.edu/mission.

____

As I was reading the mission for San Francisco University I felt very connected with the environment of this school and I remember how it felt helping the little kids understand the meanings of the prayers and give them knowledge of who god is. While I was studying to receive my confirmation, I help children understand the meaning of god and help them learn their prayers so they can receive their First Communion. This was one of the most interesting feelings I had when I was in the classroom helping the young children.

Attending this university ill make sure that its mission becomes mine as well. This mission would mean a lot to me cause it's also something I can bring back to my community. It would help me develop another way of life that I can become more professional and a better person. I would like to help the world become more successful and live in a where faith and justice exist. I enjoy been catholic, it shapes up the way I have grown. The beliefs, values and family traditions that I have are the foundations of who I am. As I acquired more knowledge of the Jesuit Catholic tradition, I would help others in anything they need. I always thought helping others would help me gain a higher success and a brighter future because everything pays off. I don't only want to help people study but also help children educating them with the same beliefs and knowledge that I have. I think everyone should have the same opportunity to be educated, because at the end we are all equal. I think this can be a way of helping and bringing something to the university because it would be developing a leader and someone who is respected.

The sensation I felt when I was helping children learn about god and learn the meaning of the prayers was very fascinating. Going to this school for me would have the same impact on my life because I would be able to do the same thing and also learn more about the Jesuit Catholic tradition. I would share and in courage other people to do the same because one has a greater knowledge when you learn about your own religion. I also felt connected with the mission statement because helping these children I also learn new skills that made me a better person. I acquired the skills of being able to teach something that many people don't like to learn about, but I made it fun and interesting because I thought I was important to teach them.

Overall, I think that attending the University of San Francisco I would be able to carry out its mission by allowing myself to learn, know it and teach it. Making it my own mission it also allows me to better myself and learn new thing about me. After being a professional, I would be able to bring the knowledge and skills back to my community and teach younger people about the good of going to a University like yours. I would also tell them the benefits and experience that I would have. To carry out the mission of the University of San Francisco would be a great honor and pride because its goes with my own set of beliefs and values and traditions.

Essays / Risky ''journey to be oneself''. Loyola Marymount Supplement Essay [2]

Propmt-
STATEMENT 1: In his homily at the Class of 2005's Baccalaureate Mass, LMU's President Fr. Robert Lawton, S.J., said: ''So what is the answer to this deep insecurity we all feel? The answer, I think, is to embrace the adventure of becoming deeply, and fully, ourselves. This is what God is really calling us to. It seems like the riskiest of all journeys, this journey to be one self. But it's ultimately the journey that leads us to happiness, that leads us into God's dreams for us.''

QUESTION 1: Why do you think Fr. Lawton says the ''journey to be oneself'' seems the riskiest of all journeys? What risks lie ahead in your college career as you embark on the ''adventure'' of discovering and becoming yourself?

a risky journey

The journey to oneself seems the riskiest of all because in the way of finding yourself. There are many decisions one must take that can be the right decisions or can be mistake. It's a long journey one must take to find oneself and have many obstacles. Not being able to be true to you, being scared of reality and many more things that can be consider an obstacle. College is a big step, the most interesting adventure you'll have to know yourself and knowing who you are.

In my opinion Fr. Lawton said the journey to be oneself is the riskiest because the obstacles you face can be difficult to overcome. After all, Fr. Lawton does say everything you face is going to lead you to happiness and leads us into God's dream for us. It is also the riskiest because you can be scared of who you are and pretend to be someone else. You can also be scared that people don't accept who you are and hide your true self. You can also try to fit in places where you don't belong. So in order to find yourself, you have to fit in or find something new. There are also days that you can feel very successful and have pride. However there are other days that can go wrong and feel like a failure. In order to find yourself, you can't let things that are difficult to destroy. So it is a journey and it's risky because you have to know how to control emotions and be strong for the things you have to face every day.

In my life, entering college and embarking a new journey it's going to change my life. The risk that I would face is finding the things I would enjoy. Also I would need to get used to the work and have different daily routines. Also I would have to find a set of friends that I would be comfortable to learn from them, share with them my college experience and help them with anything. In the long run, if I help others achieve their goals while I strive to achieve mine, it will have a bigger impact in the success that I would gain and the happiness that would lead me into god's dream and lead me a brighter journey for myself. In many ways this adventure that I would be taking its going to mostly be finding who I truly am, which is one of the best journeys in my life that I am going to take. After truly full filling my career and obstacles that I face, I would I'll be happy with myself and it would lead me into god's dream.

After this entire journey is finish it would only do us well. Even though there would be many obstacles you face it would get us stronger and help us find the puzzle pieces of our lives. In many ways going to a school like Loyola Marymount, for myself, it would help me direct my journey to a greater happiness. It would direct me more into god's dream and fulfilling my career close to hometown and family. When this journey is beginning I might be scarred for the obstacles I would face, but all I know is that many people are with me that are going to help me find myself. I am strong enough to live this journey and face what is coming toward me, because at the end I am going to feel proud of who I have become and the success that I am going to have.
