Undergraduate / 'A veterinarian from Mountain View' - Stanford... why is it a good place for me? [5]

QUESTION: Tell us what makes Stanford a good place for you.

Alright I think this is the final one.. I took out the entire part about the beach, and added alot more about the school. Thanks a ton for the comments... I agree. And they really help alot!

Stanford is a great place for me because I feel comfortable at the location, because a fun and relaxing day is close by, and because graduating with a Stanford degree will best prepare me for my future.

I was born and lived in Mountain View, California for the first part of my life. I currently live in Denver, Colorado. I visit California every summer, usually twice, and when I go there I feel at home. I am really comfortable in California, and I know that while I'm at Stanford, I will feel at ease, and not miss my home in Denver as much as if I went to another college.

Stanford's feel of a home-away-from-home is very reassuring for me; however, the number one reason I am looking forward to attending Stanford is because it is the college that can help me become most prepared for my future. After graduating with an undergraduate degree, I am planning on continuing school to become a Veterinarian.

I believe Stanford is the school that can best prepare me for the challenges and competition I will meet in my graduate program because it is such a high ranked school and has top professors. The opportunities Stanford holds for me; research labs, Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning professors, and the brilliant student body I will have the chance to work with will stretch my learning to the greatest extent. I will have a chance to work face to face with some of the most accomplished professors in the country, an experience offered no where else.

The opportunities presented to me by Stanford are incomparable to other universities. My time spent at Stanford will be filled working with experienced professors in the classroom and in research labs, a prospect that has pushed Stanford to the top of my college lineup.

Undergraduate / 'Capital punishment debate' - stanford... an intellectually engaging experience. [5]

QUESTION: Stanford students are widely known to possess a sense of intellectual vitality. Tell us about an idea or an experience you have had that you find intellectually engaging.

ANSWER: This year, I had the opportunity to debate with a few other students about a topic of our choice. We chose capital punishment. We were given a couple months to work on the project and learn as much information as we could to present a case that could win. My side was pro-capital punishment, and we argued from both an economic and a moral standpoint. Through the many hours of research I did, I came to know the issue very well, and I felt comfortable presenting my information to the other students. I enjoyed doing this project because it pushed me to look at a very controversial issue through my own eyes. I had the chance to form my own opinions off of facts and other opinions I found. Arguing such a controversial issue made me realize that to have an opinion I can support (under any circumstances), I need to be informed. I learned what I need to do to form my own opinions, and how to present information in a way that will affect others. Now that I have gone through that experience, I believe that I could argue and sway others toward my side in any debate. This experience made me comfortable sharing what I believe with anyone.

Do you think I should take out that I was pro-capital punishment? Would it be better if I left that out?

thanks for help soooo much!

Undergraduate / NYU short answer, 4 prompts; 'My father has a big nose, and I got it from him' [2]

The first one is good, it shows your personality and that your proud of who you are. you could cut out ' and i would not have it any other way'.

The third one also shows your personality and i think it is good.

In the second one, to shorten it i think you could cut out the middle sentance 'i feel that...change the world' or shorten it because you go into how badly you want to research and how you plan to do that in the fourth prompt.

The fourth shows that you know what you want to do and have a set course for it.
good!

p.s. you have a sweet last name.

Undergraduate / Stanford.. help your roommate get to know you. [7]

Thats a good idea thank you!
so "the first thing i would tell someone..." Ill switch to "As my roommate for the next year, the first thing you should know about me is"

and "another thing my roommate should know..." ill switch to: "Another thing you should know"
is 'you' too informal though?

Undergraduate / Stanford.. help your roommate get to know you. [7]

QUESTION: Virtually all of Stanford's undergraduates live on campus. What would you want your freshman roommate to know about you? Tell us something about you that will help your roommate -- and us -- know you better.

So I am a really energetic person and I love doing random, crazy things. But I'm not quite sure how to put that into an essay? This is my shot at it... help?

THANKS SO MUCH I really really appreciate any comments/help/whatever.

ANSWER:
The first thing I would tell someone I am about to live with for a year is that I am very energetic, and with that energy I love doing random, spontaneous activities.

I love doing spur-of-the-moment activities, like making cinnamon rolls in the middle of the day, or going running at 9 o'clock p.m. Running is one of the things I do almost every day. I love running somewhere I've never been, and wandering around, with no idea where I'm going. I'm always relieved when I make it home safe, but the excitement of unpredictable outcomes and the chance at finding a new running path is always worth the risk. Running with a friend makes the adventure twice the fun, so I am looking forward to meeting someone who is as curious about the outdoors as I am.

Another thing my roommate should know is that I am a morning person, so I get up earlier than most people and am active all day long. I always have a smile on my face. I love cheering people up if they're down. I love being in a good mood. I love living life, meeting new people, and laughing. If I'm bored, I think of something creative and fun to do, so there is never really a dull moment with me!
