Undergraduate / Lord of the Rings/ Stiff/ Sherlock Homes/ Harry Potter....; UChicago: Favorite books [3]

It appears we are kindred spirits :D hehe here's my input
For me to see is to read. I have always been that way.
To this day, between eleven in the evening and three in the morning have always been my secret hours. Under the covers, the pages of my open book, illuminated by a sneaky circle of light, were gateways to worlds. For me to see is to read. I have always been that way. I could immerse myself for hours reading aboutpicturing,or similar word of your choice the nail-biting adventures of

my parents woke up these ungodly hoursnot sure this is the right wording you're looking for

Daunting tasks but giving up would be akin to leaving a task incomplete.having task twice is a bit redundant

I think it answers the prompt quite nicely.

Undergraduate / Philosophy, pursuit of truth and wisdom / Lehigh supp/Topic of study [3]

I want students that enrolled in my college to take philosophy because philosophy turns knowledge learned into knowledge applied {and then to wisdom}. this sentence is a bit awkward, why not expand on the last bit and make it a separate sentence?

Students would benefit by learning from others, helping other students out in the effort of seeking knowledge {and therefore there would be respectful to everyone.} weird wording

I would want them to leave exclaiming, "This college made the ability to access learning material easy, and taught me well, so now I want to learn about that subject even more! I like your idea for the last sentence, but do people really talk like that?

Try to make more like 1 essay instead of 3 different paragraphs. Try merging the questions of your prompt into 1 single umbrella question and then answer it with your 3 points

Undergraduate / Small liberal arts school/ Chllenge mentally&academically; Why hobart and williams? [6]

I believe that Hobart and William colleges is a perfect school for me because [hunting down for colleges my junior year]i would delete this I wanted a small liberal arts school where I can be challenged mentally and academically. Being exposed to challenges will provide me with baby steps to the real challenges that I would keep the same tense throughout, e.g. use will here instead of would face in the real-world. With Hobart's pre-med program I will be able to experience what the medical field is really like. One of the goals that I want to fulfil while attending Hobart is being able to communicate more eloquently and master my writing skills. I believe that Hobart will aid me with this goal by providing me with rigorous writing classes. With the ability to communicate I know that when I apply to medical school I will be a candidate because of my background in internships at hospitals and my communication skills that Hobart provided me with.

Undergraduate / A firefighter is as much of a super hero as superman or batman; SUPER HERO [3]

Critiques please? :)

If you were a super hero, what would your super power be, why, and for what purposes would you use it?

As far as super heroes are concerned, I don't believe that one needs to have super powers. A firefighter is as much of a super hero as superman or batman, even more so in his own right. Nevertheless, if I were to be a super hero I would prefer the package came with super powers. The box would probably read "Super power: Space/Time Manipulation, useful for saving the world and basic tomfoolery, cape and secret identity not included".

In essence, space/time manipulation would give me the ability to teleport, speed, stop, and slow time, as well as travel through it. All of these qualities are highly practical for everyday life. Running late for work? Just slow down time a bit. Need to write an essay on antebellum south? Travel through time and experience it first-hand. Having the ability to manipulate space and time would be the ultimate super power a person could have. At least, the best super power a student can possess.

Not only would space/time manipulation be useful for conventional problems, it could also help save the world. If the world has decided to bless a poor soul with super powers there are one of two things that can happen, either that person becomes a super villain or a super hero. If neither does, the universe should take their super powers back because it's a waste of super juice. For my chosen super power, becoming a super villain seems much easier to do. Go back in time a little and mess with the present. However, according to popular belief, the universe protects itself, leaving my devious plans to rewrite history in the dust. So then, I would have to rise to the occasion, if it presents itself, and heroically save the world.

Regardless of being a super hero or a super villain this is real life and in real life, there are no super powers. There are super skilled people, and heroes, but not super powered heroes. However that's just fine, super heroes are escapism. Store the super hero package in a closet somewhere for now. When life gets to be too much let us do as Tolkien and escape into fantasy, into the Marvel Universe, or whatever Tumblr has to offer.
