Undergraduate / Since a young age, I have been traveling... Northwestern Supplement (unique qualities) [2]

What are the unique qualities of Northwestern - and of the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying - that make you want to attend the University? In what ways do you hope to take advantage of the qualities you have identified? (250 words)

Since a young age, I have been traveling the world with my parents and immersing myself within cultures from all over the world. My curiosity for a global perspective has lead me to Northwestern University, which provides the opportunity for me to expand and nurture my passion for the global realm. Northwestern offers a special opportunities unlike any other school, such as the Global Cafe. The Global Cafe is a top-notch resource which will aid me on my journey and help connect me with upperclassman with similar interest. Last summer, I took the opportunity to intern at a securities company overseas, located in Beijing, China. This internship was a small taste of the endless opportunities that lay abroad. My goal is to continue my research of the business industry and culture of China. and the Global Cafe will be one of the many unique qualities that will give me an opportunity to dive into research and international projects. The Global Cafe and the International Studies Major will help me to flourish and grow, and apply knowledge beyond a classroom. Northwestern has provided a unique plane where I can actively seek help in carrying out my own research projects. Northwestern University, a school offering me so many opportunities that match and will enhance my own goals and interests, will allow me to explore my passion for global cultures and to expand my knowledge for the world in ways no other school can offer.

Undergraduate / 'being helpful from just being offensive.' - The Art of Persuasion; Common App [5]

geezers

pick another word that also means old people, but less casual.

After reading that story, I fear that even you, admissions officer, have misinterpreted my desire to critically analyze what people say and give mindful feedback that furthers discussion, for a desire to simply argue for the sake of arguing, or worse, for a desire to show off.

i love this part because it shows a fearlessness when you speak to the officer, but it might rub off the wrong way. Find other's opinions regarding this part.

Overall, I find your essay very powerful! Good Luck

Undergraduate / I spend a majority of my time in Room 24, the home of Titan Shield; USC- Extracurricular [2]

In a short paragraph, please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences. (250 word limit)

From interviewing students to using Adobe InDesign, I spend a majority of my time in Room 24, the home of Titan Shield, my high school's newspaper. My sophomore year, after my friends recommendation, I decided to join Titan Shield and it soon became my second home. Some might think of it as a small newspaper, but to me it was an outlet for me to express my ideas and convey my creativity in new ways. I walked into this world as a staff writer and I came out as the Head Spectrum Section Editor. Generously, my world offered invaluable lessons. Late night layout revisions to meet the print deadlines were lessons on time management. Selling advertisements and self-funding the paper revealed themselves as lessons working with a real checkbook, watching our money balance, and networking with local businesses. In my final year as the editor, I learned and relished the responsibility that comes with leadership. This opportunity my school has given me, this world I live in, has shown me the challenges of a fast-paced business environment and the incredible joy and satisfaction that result from utilizing one's skills and hard work. I did not expect Titan Shield to become so important to me, but it has taught me so many invaluable skills that I will take with me into the future.
