Writing Feedback / IELTS: paying taxes is enough contribution from citizens [8]

Some people think that by paying taxes they made enough contribution to their society. TO what extent do you agree or disagree?

Paying taxes is the obligation of citizens in almost every country. Some people believe that they have made enough contribution to the country by doing that. Personally, I tend to disagree with this view.

To start with, all people who are able to work should pay tax to the government, as it is the most important source of government's revenue, which is mainly used to serve all citizens. For example, a large proportion of the tax is spent on national defence and in maintaining social stability, so that every one can work and live in a peaceful environment. The tax is also used to pay the salaries of workers working in public service sectors, such as teachers and police officers. Although these workers do not produce profit directly, what they do is for the well-being of the whole society.

However, I would argue that citizens have other important responsibilities to fulfil apart from paying tax. As we know, there are impoverished or disabled people in every society, needing help and support from others. It is true that the government can provide some fund to ease their difficulties, but such financial help is usually far from enough. In such case, aids from more capable or wealthier citizens are particularly crucial, which are a great complement to government support. Another responsibility all citizens should take is to maintain social stability together with the police force. There are criminals in every society, and the number of policemen the government can hire is limited. So it is quite necessary for the local residents to take actions and ensure the safety of the communities, by doing things like reporting suspicious activities to the police department.

In conclusion, it is a significant obligation of citizens to pay tax to the government. Other than that, they have other critical obligations to take, in order to make our society function in an ordered way.

Writing Feedback / IELTS: Life was better when technology was simpler. [5]

Life was better when technology was simpler. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Technology has always been influencing our lives throughout human history, especially in recent decades. However, there are some people complaining technology makes life more complicated rather than simpler. Personally, I disagree with this view.

I would argue technological developments in various areas have transformed our world enormously, making our lives much simpler. One of the biggest technological breakthroughs in last few years is the invention of the internet, which greatly improves people's working efficiency and productivity. It also enables people to enjoy easier life by providing online shopping stores so that they do not need to go traditional department stores, which tends to be tiring. People's communication also becomes much more convenient and efficient with the help of smart mobile phones and WI-FI technology. Thanks to them, we can keep in touch with our family members and friends anywhere and at any time. At home, all kinds of high-tech appliances not only allow us to live a life of ease, but also make our life quite enjoyable. For example, washing machines can help us do all the laundry, while high definition TVs are able to produce amazing special effects, making TV programmes more entertaining.

Still, sometimes technology does make things a little difficult, particularly to the elderly who are not willing to learn new things. One of the usually complained problems is that there are too many options when it comes electronic devices. IPhones,IPads, laptops etc. have so many similar functions that sometimes it is really hard for consumers to make choice. Also, most intelligent electronic devices are based on complicated operating systems, and therefore users have to spend quite some time on learning before feeling comfortable with them. Worse still, once they stop working, usually because of defects within them, all the convenience given by them would disappear.

In conclusion, although I accept things may occasionally become a little complicated due to technology, overall technology has enabled people to live much simpler lives.

Writing Feedback / IELTS: with increasing use of computers, letters writing will disappear [5]

With the increasing use of mobile phones and computers, fewer people write letters. Some people think that the traditional skill of letter writing will disappear. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The last few years have witnessed the increasing use of mobile phones and computers as a communication tool.Consequently, some people even think traditional letters are not significant any more, and will disappear in our life eventually. Personally, I do not agree with opinion.

Admittedly, as mobile phones and computers are becoming increasingly powerful and intelligent, they can provide many advantages in our communication. To start with,as long as they are connected to the internet, we can use our mobile phones or laptops to contact our friends and family members anywhere and at any time. Besides, compared with letters, using computers or smart phones to write and send emails is much faster. Emails can reach the recipients almost right after we click the mouse button, while it can take quite a few days for letters to be delivered. Additionally, latest development of information technology offers many powerful functions, making communication over internet more enjoyable and pleasant. Video chatting software, for instance, allows us to see each other while talking, enhancing the communication experience a great deal. Obviously, all these mentioned conveniences are not what traditional letters can provide.

Nevertheless, traditional letters still have important roles to play, although electronic devices are prevailing in people's daily contact. Firstly, due to businessmen's concern over security, paper letters will be used for important business exchange, such as the signing of business contract.Secondly,on some special occasions,it is more appropriate to use letters to express our emotions like love, respect and care. For example, our girlfriends must be more touched when they see our words in paper than when receiving our emails which can be written effortlessly with the help of computer software. In such case, our handwriting has special meanings for the recipients of our letters.

In conclusion, mobile phones and computers will continue to be main means of communication, because of their convenience and efficiency. However,I believe traditional skill of letter writing is still important, as traditional letters are preferable in some special occasions.
