Writing Feedback / Trash bins at every nook and corner, more public toilets and regularly cleaned garbage piles [2]

If you could change one important thing about your hometown, what would you change? Use reasons and specific examples to support your answer.

I come from Chennai, India. It is one of the four major metros in the country. Recently, according to BBC report, Chennai made its place to top 10 cities that are best suited to live in the year 2015. Safety, expansion of metro trains and positive attitude of the people towards different cultures were few reason mentioned. However, there are few things in the city that has to improve. If I could change one thing in my hometown, which will make it better, is the cleanliness of the city and the attitude of the people about cleanliness.

Writing Feedback / Bad news in the media? Just to make money and to gain popularity. [3]

Bala,

I read your essay and have few suggestions.

I think you have mentioned a lot about what news papers and television media does but your essay does not seem to capture the effects of these bad news. The only things that seemed to be mentioned is wrong motivation that people get form bad news. Instead I think you can mentioned about positive attitude that will happen when people read good news.

You can mention some of the recent things that has happened. For example, when the Malaysian flight went missing it was all over the news, it went on for days. However when India launched Mangalaya, it was just a one day one page news.

Give more examples and its effects.

Writing Feedback / I still hear my grandmother yelling at me asking me to stop playing on the streets [4]

Because of the busy pace of modern life, many children spend most of their time indoors and have little exposure to the natural world. How important is it for children to learn to understand and appreciate nature?

I still hear my grandmother yelling at me asking me to stop playing on the streets and come inside to have a snack. I still smell the freshness in the air when we took vacations on hill sides. I can still feel the dampness under my feet when we played in the rain water. Does a modern day kid know any of these? I seriously doubt that.

Today, inorder to give a comfortable life for their children, both the parents work. They are busy running errands around and hardly have time for the kids. As a result (in other words, out of guilty feeling) they allow kids to do whatever they want to do - like watching TV, playing with their playstation or spending time on computer/tabs/smartphones. Children these days hardly spend time outside their homes.

I recently attended a birthday party. I saw children, in the age group of about 8-12yrs, with their smartphones. Most of them were either listening to music or chatting with their friends or playing games. Same thing happened when we were spending our vacation in Florida. Even in the beach, every member in the family were so engrossed in their cellphones and hardly spoke with each other. I was surprised to see them and at the same time felt bad to see how they have isolated themselves.

This raises a very important question, "Do our kids understand and appreciate nature?". I think today no one does. During summer holidays how many kids do we see in the streets playing? How many of them prefer beaches and mountains over xbox and movie theater? How many kids have taken nature trail or spent a day without any modern technologies? Result - diabetes at younger age, heart problems, obesity and mental problems to name a few.

I strongly feel it is the responsibility of parents to teach children to learn to understand and appreciate nature. This helps in maintaining good health and stable mind.

Writing Feedback / Leave alone history, any scientific invention or discoveries can be proved only by facts. [3]

Hi, I would like to receive any comments to improve this writing. Thank you in advance for your time.

Do you agree or disagree with following statement?
It is more important for students to understand ideas and concepts than it is for them to learn facts.

----

As a student I felt understanding ideas and concepts were more important than learning facts and I never paid much attention to facts. As a result I never mastered things that I learnt. Therefore, I think though ideas and concepts are the ultimate goal for learning, learning the facts is very important to master what we learnt.

Let us take the example of learning to drive a car. Any one can learn driving by understanding how to use the clutch, accelerator and break. These are the basic ideas and concepts. However, if you have to ride a car in formula one (if you have to become master in driving) you must get your facts right. How my engine works, what kind of fuel do I use, how does that affect the efficiency of my engine and so on. These facts will help us to master the art of driving.

I also like to quote another example here. Most students are reluctant to learn the facts in their history. For example, when we talk about Indian war of Independence, why do we need to learn the facts like - why British came to India, how they captured India and how did that control the nation for more than 100 years. These facts may be boring and may prove no use to many. However, these are very important facts which helps us to understand how events occurred and we can avoid such mishaps in future.

Leave alone history, any scientific invention or discoveries can be proved only by facts. Sir Issac Newton accidentally discovered the concept of gravity. However, to make the world understand and accept this concept he had to present his facts.

If we consider human being walking as a concept then the bones, nerves and how waling happens are the facts. Without facts it is impossible to sustain a concept.
