Undergraduate / 'tough road filled with temptations' - UW-Madison Statement one [2]

Hey i am planing on transferring to UW-Madison after Two years in a UW-College.
Thanks in advance for any response it's greatly apreciated

Statement one: Consider something in your life you think goes unnoticed and write about why it's important to you.

Being extremely overweight or obese my whole life has been a struggle for myself sometimes. I always was looking for a quick fix and expected the fat to just melt off my body. Working out has never been a problem for me, I was involved in high school sports and when I went to college I worked out in the gym and played intramural sports. I always thought that it would be enough and never really focused on my diet, but now I realize that what I put in my body affects me more.

After struggling and trying to loose weight throughout high school and my first semester in college I made a discovery about myself, I was addicted to food. So I decided to focus on my diet and take a break on exercising until I got a grip on my addiction and felt comfortable enough to start exercising again. But again, I expected that if I started to eat healthy and cut out my trigger foods that the fat would just go away, faster than I had put it on. That was not the case, over the spring and for most of summer of this year I went back and forth between eating healthy and going back to my unhealthy ways of eating junk food and overeating, just because I felt it didn't matter because I wasn't losing enough weight.

Then as the beginning of my sophomore year at UW-Manitowoc was closing in I made a decision that no matter what I was going to get over my addiction and here I am a couple of months later twenty pounds lighter and still going strong. I know the road ahead will be tough and filled with temptations but my goal of being a heathier individual still goes through my mind every day and keeps me fighting. Through this continuing experience I feel that I have finally realized that there no long term quick fixes, something that I never noticed before. It may take more time and effort but if you are committed to the long term it will pay off in the end. That is why my I feel that by taking this idea that there are no long term quick fixes will not only enrich myself but to UW-Madison community as a whole.

Undergraduate / I wasn't entirely sure about what type of engineer I want to be - Statment two for UW-Madison [4]

Hi I am planning on transferring to UW-Madison and have never been very good with writing essays. Feedback is greatly appreciated.

The statement is
Tell us why you decided to apply to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition, share with us the academic, extracurricular, or research opportunities you would take advantage of as a student. If applicable, provide details of any circumstance that could have had an impact on your academic performance and/or extracurricular involvement.

At the beginner of my senior year in high school I was certain I wanted to be an engineer, but I wasn't entirely sure about what type of engineering I wanted to go into. I had enrolled in AP Chemistry and little did I know that class would influence my choice in a major. As the year progressed I become more and more fascinated with Chemistry and all the real life applications it has. From being inspired by that class, my appreciation for the fields of math and science, and my continued interest engineering I decided to pursue Chemical Engineering as my major. Even through my first year of college I am continually inspired more and more and know that this is the field for me.

With the University of Wisconsin-Madison being the only place in the state to offer this program and my strong Wisconsin roots this seemed the most logical choice for myself. Along with my ties to the state I also have a desire to continue my studies within the state and to attend a University that has a great sense of pride in whatever it does. These are just some of the many qualities that has drawn me to the UW-Madison. All these great aspects draw in a lot of people but what sets me apart from the rest, to start off I feel that I can contribute a lot to the University community. From joining intramural sports, using all the great resources that this university has to offer, and getting a part-time job are thing I plan on doing while at Madison along with any opportunities are beneficially not only for myself but to the community as a whole. Along with the various opportunities I plan to take part off, I also want to help maintain all the traditions that are part of this University. From rubbing Abe's feet on the top of Bascom hill before an exam to taking part of the "Jump Around" between the third and fourth quarter during home football games.
