Registration of a paper in an identified academic field?

Hello, I am currently reworking a paper as the reviewers asked for Major revisions (which is what I expected).

One of the remarks is the registration of the work in an identified academic field.

However, when I read several academic journals and publications, I see that many papers are interdisciplinary: for example, a journal rather focused on sociology welcomes articles from researchers in the communication, media or design section. Or the other way around.

Is it mandatory to register in a single academic field through a paper? It seems quite restrictive to me.

Thank you for your opinions.

It is customary to ask that the writer or researcher register in one academic field just to give yourself a semblance of authority and knowledge. Sometimes, there are sub-categories involved when the paper is not related to the major academic field chosen. This is not meant to restrict you as a writer. It is meant to help the readers understand your actual field expertise and why they should believe you are an authority in it. Depending upon the publication, you will either be limited to your field or, be allowed to show multi disciplinary interests. Don't worry about it for now. Just make the corrections as you are being asked to and register as they say. The more published you get, the easier it will become to enter inter-disciplinary articles as submissions.
