Hi everyone! I wrote this motivation letter for applying EMJMD scholarship for the PETaL program. I hope you can read it and give me some advice or correction so that my motivation letter will be better.
Dear PETaL EMJMD Joint Academic Committee
I believe that the best learning is learning that is fun and doesn't feel likes learning, in other words, the best learning is through playing.
My name is Muhamad Amran Halim. Be born to a mother who works as a teacher made me having a passion for the subject of education, especially children's education. Furthermore, I decide to have a career as a teacher too. I graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the Indonesia University of Education. In 2013 I joined the Indonesia Youth Angklung Orchestra and collaborated with the Marsailing Chinese Orchestra who held a concert "Love Across the Ocean I" in Singapore. It was my precious and defining moment in my life. So since 2015 until now I have been teaching the Angklung Orchestra course in kindergartens and elementary schools in Bandung. Starting my career as a teacher before graduating from university is proves my love and dedication to the subject of education.
I am a responsible, loyal, communicative, disciplined, lifelong learner, and of course, like most Indonesians, I am also a friendly and polite person. My personality makes several schools interested to hires me as a teacher and I am frequently invited as a guest teacher for the Angklung Orchestra course in other schools. In addition, I volunteered to teach the Angklung Orchestra course at Sekolah Cermat from 2015 until 2018, which is an open school for street singers and street children, which was held in collaboration by P2TP2A (Integrated Service Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children) West Java Province and a non-profit organization in Bandung. As an Angklung Orchestra's teacher, I am used to directly managing and conducting the Angklung Orchestra team to performs in various competitions, festivals, concerts, and other events at the school level, the city level even the national level.
This letter shows my interest in joining the Play, Education, Toys, and Languages (PETaL) program in 2022-2024. I believe that joining PETaL will complement my five years of teaching experiences with more theories about child psychology and teaching children approaches. It will also enrich my insight into the subject of child education because I will meet people who are interested in the same of the subject from various countries and of course I will learn from lecturers and experts in those subjects.
While teaching Angklung Orchestra, besides I am teaching music, of course, I also taught good ethics contained in the Angklung philosophy such as the ethic of unity on diversity, togetherness, equality, tolerance, cheerfulness, cooperation, and discipline. Therefore I always believe that Angklung is not just a musical instrument, but also an instrument and media for learning. That concept is underlying my undergraduate thesis research and I would like to share it with international education. That's why the Master's Program of PETaL is the program that I need to achieve my purposes.
I have a dream that in 5 years later I can become a professor in child development at an educational university or being an expert in the subject of child education. And I hope that 10 years from now, the Angklung which has been appointed as a Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO can be used by schools in mainland Europe not only as a musical instrument but also as an instrument and media for learning the good ethics contained in the Angklung philosophy.
As a closing statement, if I have to recommend the best learning as I explained earlier, of course, I will answer that the best learning is playing Angklung.
