Chevening is looking for individuals who will be future leaders or influencers in their home countries. Explain how you meet this requirement, using clear examples of your own leadership and influencing skills to support your answer. (minimum word count: 100 words, maximum: 500 words)
Management skills, such as leadership, communication and decision making are important. With those aspects, I could manage operations work smoothly. I have led and organized my team to achieve department goals by creating clarity of purpose, process and roles. It's made my decision more logical, informed and fair so my team committed and contributed effectively. My responsibilities are pack-out activities include outgoing and incoming personal effects for around 12,000 employees' both national and expatriate. With limited workers, only 7 persons; I have to plan and coordinate pack-out request on time. To influence workers, first thing that matter is I must manage myself to be a good example. Management begins with me; how hard they work, their level of personal commitment, their willingness to accept my influence, will depend in large part on the qualities they see in me. Productive influence arises from workers trust in me as leader. That trust has two components: belief in my competence (I know what to do and how to do it) and belief in my character (my motives are good and I want my people to do well). Communication is one of my greatest strength; therefore I could handle team and clients from many background, cultures and nation. Pack-out activities have a long and continuous process also involve many departments. I have to work cooperatively with other departments including Human Resources, Industrial Relation, Security, Containers, Cargo Transportation, Shipping, Export Import and delivery agents.
