Hello everyone. I will try to apply for Australia Awards Scholarship this year.
Thanks for reviewing my essay.
In the past decades, the Indonesia government relies on tax revenue to finance Indonesia's budget and development programs. Acknowledging the critical roles, Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) is currently reforming the tax system by re-channelling services into digital channels through upgrading the Contact Centre capacity. This approach and other policies expectedly boost Indonesia's tax revenues and improve service delivery. As a supervisor at the Contact Centre, I am in charge of coordinating this transformation with many institutions, including the Australian Tax Office (ATO) and PROSPERA. I find that, among several alternatives, Australia's system shows advantages to be adopted by DGT on digitalising tax service delivery. Yet, the process should assess both the Indonesian and Australian tax systems. Therefore, I am passionate to learn the Australia tax law and its administration services by enrolling in a Master of Taxation in Australia. The study will award me a comprehensive understanding of the tax administration to support DGT's reform once I return to the Contact Centre.
Considering those facts, I will enrol to the Master of Tax at the University of Melbourne, as many subjects offered are tailored toward my learning needs. Foundations of Tax Law will give me a robust knowledge of the Australian tax system. I will also harness valuable tax collection skills through Income Tax Compliance and Enforcement case study. Beneficially, living in Melbourne will provide an opportunity to collaborate with my contacts in the ATO and observe the implementation of the tax system by ATO directly.
As an alternate, I choose the Master of Taxation at the University of Sydney. I anticipate that several units of study, such as Introduction to Australian Business Tax, Public Policy, and Economics of Tax Policy, will offer me an analytical approach to steer the Contact Centre's revitalisation. Moreover, Independent Research Project will sharp my critical thinking.
