Why did you choose your proposed course and institution? (max 2000 characters)
I hope to become an expert in public policy by studying relevant master program at Australia. I work as internal auditor in Inspectorate General of Ministry of Finance (MoF) with responsibilitites to give assurance and consulting services and propose recommendation to improve effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control processes. Inspectorate General play a pivot role in evaluating and providing recommendations related to policies in MoF. However, this hasn't been optimal due to a lack of knowledge and skills among auditors. I believe learning public policy will enhance my skills about analysing and evaluating policies which can solve that issue.
After doing research on several public policy programs in Australia, I consider the Master of Public Policy at Australia National University suits my need. Through this coursework, I will have an opportuniy to extend my understanding of public policy, especially in policy research, evidence and anlysis in public policy. Furthermore, the program has Public Finance and Policy specialisations that will ehance my understanding in key elements of public finance such as taxes and expenditure, budget management, and the use of fiscal policy in the economy.
On the other hand, I find the Master of Economics and Public Policy at The University of Queensland also interesting since it focuses on the economic analytical tools needed to design and evaluate public policies. They also have interesting course such as behavioural economics & public policy, cost benefit analysis & project evaluation. Those course will beneficial for my current role on evaluating and giving recommendation of policy formulation & implementation in MoF.
The skills, knowledge and experience acquired during study in Australia will beneficial not only for my current role as internal auditor, but also for my expected role in MoF as policy maker.
