My name is XuanBach Phan. I am writing to express my interest in Master in Business engineering specialized in Supply chain management program of HEC School of Management at University of Liege and I would like to explain my motivation in a few words for the consideration on granting me the admission and scholarship.
Even since high school, I myself have always been keen on learning how mathematical theories and equations can be put into practice. This prompted me to study at the National University of Civil Engineering-one of the most prestigious technical universities in Vietnam. Majoring in Construction economics and management, not only am I provided with the construction knowledge, but I also have an economic and managing background. While pursuing Construction Economics and Management field at National University of Civil Engineering, I realized that economics and management-related issues greatly intrigue me, explaining for my choice of major for higher education. For this expectation, therefore, after having the degree of bachelor in construction economics and management, I decided to study postgraduate program.
At that time, there were a lot of postgraduate programs within Vietnam and abroad. Searching information on the media and getting reference from my friends and relatives helped me choose the NUCE - HEC-Ulg Joint -master program in industrial management. As being the collaboration between two universities, the program lasts 2 years : the first year in Vietnam and the second one in Belgium. In the first year, I studied many subjects such as : Engineering Economics, Quantitative Methods, Human Resources management, Supply Chain management which are quite conformable to either my background or my major. However, as I got along with the academic subjects, I was extremely impressed by Supply Chain management course which brings me the knowledge related to managing the process of designing , planning, executing, controlling and monitoring of supply chain activities in order to best achieve the production and distribution of goods and service in an enterprise or organization. The desire to expand and broaden my understanding in Supply Chain management motivated me to determine to take part in a master course majoring in Supply Chain management in University of Liege.
Taking this Master course in University of Liege, firstly, will help me make a step change in career path. Learning in University of Liege-one of the leading European higher education institutions is undoubtedly one of the best choices to gain deep academic understanding and valuable case study about management. I am strongly confident that years of experiences in educating students from all over the world of University of Liege will be intensively beneficial for my tertiary study in Supply Chain management . Thanks to diverse background of
students, researchers, lecturers and professors, your esteemed university, to my best understanding, enables the learners to approach a range of in-depth course examining production methods, stock control, transport and distribution management, decision making models...and variety of knowledge linking to management. All these precious opportunities will make it easier for me to get a bright career in the future.
Secondly, enjoying a master course in University of Liege would give me the possibility to experience learning in a professional academic context with well-known scholars and excellent students at the same time. Furthermore, it is also an ideal choice to exploit all skills and understanding acquired at university and to upgrade my hard and soft skills to the next level.
Last but not the least, learning and experiencing the life in Belgium-a member of French speaking community are a great chance for me to learn French and get an in-depth understanding about the European culture and society.
By the end of the course, my construction background combined with the knowledge in Supply Chain management would help me get a job as an operation and logistic manager in a construction company. Considering the fact that in Vietnam, Supply Chain management is still in the early stage(in infancy) and lack of professional management, it is obvious that the course and my experience in Euro would give me valuable resources to take home and contribute for my own organization growth and for the sustainable development of Vietnam in the future.
