The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things
According to Ronald Reagan, "The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things." Describe an instance where you had to be a leader in your community. What did you learn about yourself, your leadership style, and your capacity to create change? -
Leaders help themselves and others to do the right things, to set direction, build an inspiring vision, and create something new. Leadership is about mapping out where you need to go to "win" as a team or an organization,to achieve organisational goals.
According to my results, it indicates that my leadership style is predominately participative, which means that I am capable of working with group members who understand the objectives and their role in the task.
My first leadership experience started from school. One of the Georgian Non-ogranization by USAID assistance made camp for Children without parental care and I was chosen team leader. The main objective of project was to integrate children into society. They were not accustomed public relations, also can not be used to go to school even for me it was hard part, but I am a very trustworthy person with an ability to work as a team player or as an individual which helps me to survive under different kind of environments.
The problems I found seem small now, but in fact they were a symptom of the difficulties that plagued our entire project. Some have not done their tasks. On the other hand I discovered the personality clashes. On the negative side some of them complain about wasting their time instead of using their time to solve their problems and continue with their tasks.
However, a few days before the deadline, we ran into a serious issue that may jeopardized the project. In the final analysis I talked them who have had problems and complaints, encouraging them to forget their differences and move on with their part in the project. The solution I proposed was deemed risky as it involved significant coordination and In 24 hours, I coordinated a mass effort with them and had made all together our group task.
In addition, I tried to exalt those around me by acknowledging and valuing their accomplishments. With this in mind I believe that the most effective teams view success as a shared experience. Fortunately we were able to solve the problem all together and did the greates things, We won the Republican Debate Tournament. My supervisor came over and praised me for my hard work for the past week and he also informed me that they will offer me a team leader job once I finished my course.
In my point of view , a good leader should be able to communicate and collaborate, and in the process, inspire people to work towards the goal. Working closely with others, listening to the issues they are facing, and collaborating with them to work towards a solution creates a bond. Later, when faced with problems they will reach out to their leaders for solutions to deal with the situation.
To demonstrate what I learnt by myself is that I got big socially resourceful, communication skills and now I am comfortable one-on-one or with a large group. I truly believe that learning from the experiences of others is an incredibly valuable resource. And on of the greates thing that there is no Class division In a democratic state, we all are alike without any differences.
Component that is an important part of my leadership style is the ability to understand change. In my observation change is given. At the same time it is hard working, sharing the sense of responsibility, punctuality, time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
When I am the leader, it means that I should take into consideration the opinions of everybody, even when change is necessary. I have tried to change my team members attitude and I think I did it.
