Why this program at the University of Western Australia?

The government, through the National Strategic Plan, recognizes that urbanization is a tool towards social and economic development. However, the country has a general deficit of infrastructure. The deficit on water supply, mobility and public amenities for education and health remain significant in urban and rural areas. Since I worked for XXXX, I had opportunity to travel across the country and see the real situation of development. Since then I realized that lack of a proper planning leads the country to this situation. To address these development issues, Urban and Regional Planning and Geographic Information System (GIS) play a crucial role to improve the quality of cities and regions to provide better services to its populations. I choose Master's program of Urban and Regional Planning because this program is an interdisciplinary and always integrate environmental, economic, and social aspects of development of territory, from small sites to whole region.

After doing some research of universities in Australia, I made up my mind that the University of Western Australia and the University of Queensland are the best universities among other universities in terms of Urban and Regional Planning and GIS program. Those universities provide some units in Geographic Information System (GIS) and others emphasize more on planning and policies.

Master of Urban and Regional Planning in the University of Western Australia will provide me knowledge of methods and concepts in urban and regional planning and their ability to apply to planning issues.

Moreover, Master of Urban and Regional Planning in the University of Queensland will equip me with specific knowledge in development, environmental planning, and geographic information system.
