My Motivation Letter

Taking a part of Indonesian Development

Good Governance is very important for a country to sustain its development and improve the welfare of its people. Without Good Governance, a country will be stagnant and swamped by bad policy. In my opinion, in order to contribute more to development in my country as well as to the welfare of its people, it is important to understand the background knowledge and concrete skills to assess and work in enforcing good governance. This is especially true for a State Auditor like me, with my primary responsibility being to supervise development and state finance in Indonesia. In addition, regarding the fact that the development studies I have gained in my previous education are not sufficient, learning more about Public Administration and Public Services Policy in Master of Public Management Program at University of Potsdam will help me carry out my duties as a public servant even more effectively.

I hope this course program will provide me with the knowledge and skills that will be beneficial to me in carrying out my duties as a development and financial supervisor in Indonesia. In addition, I hope my presence will be added in the learning process of this program. With my five years of experience as a State Auditor, I will make every discussion on Public Administration and Public Policy related courses more targeted and easy to understand, because I have already applied some knowledge related to government policy to my work.

I currently work as State Auditor in the Indonesian Development Supervisory Board (BPKP) Representative of West Papua Province. My responsibilities include supervising the special autonomy regional development in West Papua Province, particularly in the field of anti-corruption, inspection of regional income such as local taxes, investment issues, local State operations, and many more. This authoritative role has provided me with direct access to the operations being carried out in the region. I am aware that West Papua Province is a complex area, where ongoing conflict and self-segregation has impeded regional development and national integration. The situation has required a deep understanding of how to enforce and preserve sustainable development and good governance with a good public policy. Therefore, enrolling in a master's degree program in Public Management will surely help me expand on my knowledge base regarding these issues, and thus enable me to carry out my profession as a State Auditor more easily.

After completing my studies, I plan to continue my current employment as a State Auditor on the Indonesian Financial and Development Supervisory Board (BPKP), carrying out my duties at a heightened level to aid in Indonesian Development. I will use the knowledge and skills that I have learned to solve the development problems in Indonesia, such as poverty, economic downturn, and corruption. Even more, in the next five years, my position in BPKP (my organization) will be at the management level, allowing a deeper role in decision making. This will allow me to further innovate in practicing the knowledge I gained for development in Indonesia, such as proposing tax reforms, proposing policies that attract investors, more sophisticated anti-corruption controls, and so on. Ultimately, the chance to complete these courses will help me ensure the future development of my country; as a result, Indonesia can develop better cooperative relationships with other countries.

Hope for feedback and correction. Thanks.

Juli, your essay has too much word filler in it that prevents the reviewer from getting to read the important data that is required. When writing a motivation letter with such specific prompt requirements, the reviewer will not take the time to read through all of the non-related information before deciding whether or not to consider your application. The job of this essay is to provide directly related information for his consideration. That is why you should not use this essay in its current format. Instead, you should edit it to reflect only the necessary responses. You can use paragraphs 1,2, and 4. These directly respond to prompts 1,2, and 3.

I suggest developing a more focused response to the challenges in the public sector in your home country. That is prompt #3. You offered only a general discussion of the problems but no real idea as to how completing this course will help you solve it. Consider focusing on the biggest problem as you perceive it to be and then explain how you plan to resolve the issue based upon the knowledge you will have gained at that point. It is not "I hope" but instead "I will" in terms of problem resolution.
