"The price of success is hard work" - Radilogy Technology Scholarship

First off let me tell you writing is not my strong suit! I'm applying for a Kaiser Permanente Scholarship for my Radiologic Technology Program. I was not given anything as far as specifications and my prompt is "a written essay describing personal goals, achievements and accomplishments". Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. Here is what I've come up with:

Vince Lombardi once said, "The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand." I admire the words written here and try to apply them in my everyday life. Now that I am part of the Pasadena City College Radiology Program I find these words more important than ever. The only thing that is not fitting about this quote is that when I put my mind to something, as though I have for school, and someone else is depending on my actions, I will not lose. Not only will my patients rely on me to provide them with the best care possible but also I will someday have a family that relies on my success in the field. This being said, even though I'm only a handful of months in I've dedicated my self to this program by setting personal goals, some of which I've already achieved and some of which I've yet to achieve but have made a promise to myself to accomplish.

When I was applying to radiology programs across the state my only wish was to be accepted to one in Northern California so as to be close to my friends, family, fiancé and life as I knew it. At the time, I thought it was unfortunate that the only school lottery in which I was lucky enough to "win" a position in was at Pasadena City College, but as it turns out, I don't think I could have found a better fit in schools. Although leaving my comfortable country girl farm life for the city life of LA is the biggest curve ball that has yet been thrown at me I've decided to put all that I can into this program and make my time here well spent. I'm not working while in the program therefore I'm able to put my every effort into doing well in school. I manage my time exceptionally well so that I'm able to make the seven-hour drive home nearly every weekend. This is something that I hope to continue throughout the program so I make sure to always stay on schedule and put nothing off until the last minute. This is just one of the standards that I've set for myself while in the program.

Another one of the goals that I set for myself upon acceptance to the program is to be as involved as I can and start building myself an admirable resume from day one of my radiology experience. I've already put a good dent in this goal by being elected as President for the Class of 2013. With this role comes a great deal of participation both in and out of class. To date I've been involved in Breast Cancer Awareness week at our school by making pink ribbons to hand out and also fundraise in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, I've attended the CSRT annual conference held at Stanford University, and I'm a tutor in all of our current subjects for my fellow classmates. As for upcoming events I will also be a part of our Great American Smoke Out and many more events to come. Another one of my achievements since starting the program is being chosen as the Ruth McMillan Scholar. This is an award for an exemplary radiology student in California. I am honored to be selected for this award and it's only made me work harder and want to follow through with my goals and aspirations.

Some other goals that I've set for my self are to always be punctual in both class and clinical. It is in my nature to always be a little early. I will turn every assignment in on time and make sure that it is done to the best of my ability. I will always lend a hand to other students looking for help. In addition to these goals, I've found it helpful to try and learn the ways of every technologist that I have the opportunity to work with. I believe that in any field, even if one had the opportunity to work in that field for several lifetimes, there is always a way to be further educated. This is something that I will strive to accomplish throughout my career.

I'm a strong willed and determined individual that will accept nothing less than to do well in my schooling and future career. Moving away and being in a long distance relationship is the hardest thing I've ever done but I will not let it stop me from being committed to this program. I know that in the long run this will be a rewarding job in which I get to help people on a daily basis but I will also help the people I love the most in life. I can't wait for the day when my life is back to 'normal'. Until then I will keep my positive attitude and always apply myself to the task at hand, knowing that all will end in success.

Ok I made some changes here, hopefully for the better!

On a personal note, I'm an individual of high moral character. I'm honest, conscientious, articulate, highly motivated and I have excellent communication skills. I'm a strong willed and determined individual that will accept nothing less than to do well in my schooling and future career. I believe these are all traits vital to a radiology technologist. Having these traits will help me to accomplish my goals throughout the program.
