i accidentally submitted an essay of 150 words and not a minimum of 250 words
i already submitted this application to one of my colleges and i cant make anymore changes on the common app because they grayed out everything.

what do i do!? PLEASE HELP.

if there is nothing i can do, what do you suggest my next step be?!

Have you considered community college? I am just kidding. I should not joke around when I know that you are stressed. Is there a "contact" page on the website? They should have the ability to make changes from the inside and open up the text box for you again. Good luck with it!

Something similar happened to me. You can't do anything about your submission, but you can change the application for the other schools. Create an alternate version of your common app (see website) and just add all the other schools on there. Then you can edit it and fix that writing mishap.

Good luck.

i would definitely call the school and see if there is a way they can open it up for you. That's a shame.

Just send the same essay with an extra 100 words. If your 150 word essay was well-expressed, the reduced verbage should NOT have a irreversible detrimental effect on your application! DHL or Fedex it to a specific admissions officer if you can't do it on-line. And keep proof that you sent it just in case they claim never to have received it...

Well if there is nothing you could do, then you should just lament over your mistake for the rest of your life. As people on here have mentioned before, you should try contacting the admissions office. If you are still unable to change anything, then just move on. Life's too short to lament.

I would first contact the common application place and ask them to re-open it for you, and after that I would contact the college you sent it to and see if you can send the finished version of it.

1. make a new common app i.d. and password and start from scratch
2. call the college and tell them you sent the wrong essay and theyre gna give you an email adress to send the essay to.. like for drexel it was enrol@drexel.edu or seomething like that, just an example.=] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =]

at least your not the ballon boys dad.. thats wut i say wen im sad now lol

I would just contact the college until the situation is solved! Do NOT stop contacting until you know 100% that there has been a resolution. Trust me...I know! Thank You Rice University!

I heard that somebody contacted a university when he/she realized there were a lot of mistakes on the supplement essay, and the uni said he could fax over the new version. I think if you contact the uni you applied to, they would allow you to do the same. Don't give up!

Yes, a phone call and a fax! That sounds right. And if the school has not time to help you, maybe it is not the right school.

It's ok I sent the wrong version of my essay off to a few schools, and I just contacted the admissions for each place (through email) to see if they would let me send the revised version. They were suprisingly nice about it and just told me to send the revised version to them so they could attach it to my application. You should do the same, and like someone else said before me, create an alternate version of the application and send that to the rest of your colleges. Oh and here's instructions on how to make an alternate version:

Step1: You must submit the Common Application to at least one institution. When this is complete, you must log out of your account.

Step 2: Copy and paste the following link into your browser window

commonapp.org/CommonApp/Default.aspx?allowcopy=true

You will be presented with a login screen to the Common Application. You must then enter your existing Username and Password and click Login.

Step 3: You will be presented with a screen titled 'Application Versions,' where you will see information about the application that you've already submitted. You may then click on the 'Replicate' link to create an alternate version of your submitted application. When this is complete, a second version will be visible on this screen. A special drop down will appear in the upper right corner of the application to allow quick access to all your applications.

Step 4: You may edit the alternate version to allow for college-specific information. You also should move any schools needed to the new version.

Help on the Common App submission--make change on what I submitted???

Hi guys,

I need your help here...
I submitted my supplement to Yale University yesterday, and now I found a grammar mistakes and one misspelled word in my additional essay. Is there any way to change it after the submission? Can I write an email to Yale?

Sorry the question may sounds somewhat silly... I am an international applicant, and your help is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!

No, once you submit it, you can't change it. Sorry :/ hopefully they'll give you a break for being an international applicant. besides, I don't think they'll reject you for a spelling error :)

Hi Karissa,

Thank you for your prompt reply!
Okay, I accept that:) (though with a sigh) Hopefully they won't get annoyed by those mistakes...
Thank you anyways!
