"Buzzing is what I do for pleasure" - MIT short answer

Question: We know you lead a busy life, full of activities, many of which are required of you. Tell us about something you do for the pleasure of it. (100 words or fewer)

The fastest "buzzer" does not wait for the last answer to be read before smacking the red button. To the layman this may sound like Jeopardy, but to me this is every Friday night: Science Bowl practice. The rules are simple: a question about a scientific subject is read to the competitors, and the first to press his button first answers the question. Because of this, most practices are fast-paced and extremely chaotic. Freshmen who tolerate this atmosphere become experienced enough to learn the "intricacies" of buzzing: the process of elimination, and educated guessing. I often interrupt to answer before the question is finished. (104 words)

I know I'm over the limit, but I don't think those four extra words are a big deal to MIT admissions. Am I answer the question enough in an interesting/engaging manner? Does my essay need to explain more? Thanks in advance for your help! I'll be back to post a couple more short answers/short essays once I take care of them.

I realize that you feel this is engaging but really, your wrap-up last sentence did not leave me impressed. Imagine, most people applying to MIT most likely are the fastest "buzzers" like yourself. So what makes you special? (not "I often interrupt to answer before the question is finished.") I hope you can provide a more compelling recapitulation of what is special about you as a fast buzzer./...??)

you are on the right track. it is very difficult describing an activity in 100 words. I for one, aren't caught out for it.
that said, there is room for improvement in your essay. you can make it more interesting by making the buzzing nite more personal to you. describing how you feel, the sensation coarsing thru every night, the fierce competition, the effort you put in the preparation, and so on.

Freshmen who
tolerate this atmosphere become
experienced enough to learn the
"intricacies" of buzzing: the process of
elimination , and educated guessing . I
often interrupt to answer before the
question is finished..

the deleting the above and restructuring your essay will give you more space to show how buzzing is something you do for the "pleasure" of it.

cheers.
