Are there any significant experiences you have had, or accomplishments you have realized, that have helped to define you as a person?
The experiences we have had can be life changing. These experiences could be either memory that we do not want to regain or memories that we want to treasure our whole life. These memories that we have are the memories that carries us to the future.
I have encountered a lot of challenges in my life that has gauged my sobriety. I have accomplished trials that are simple yet difficult. Because of this event that has occurred to me from my past to the present, I have come to discover that I am a person, an existing life form, and a human being that is living in this extra-ordinary world that is full of happiness.
When I was in 2nd Yr. High School, it was the first day of school; I decided to join the Glee Club, because I have always wanted to express my feelings by singing. By the time I was auditioning for the club I was very nervous at first, but in the end I got accepted to the club. By the month of July, my teacher told us that there will be a competition on the month of August at Miriam College and Aliw Theater. We were very nervous and excited, because it was our first time to compete with other big schools. Our first venue was in Miriam College Katipunan, Quezon City. As we wait for our next turn, we prayed to god that we do not fail, for this is important to us, and if we do fail it would be ok, because it is your plan and also Failure is the first step to success. So as we finish our prayer the announcer called us up the stage. As we harmonized the song "Piliin mo ang Pilipinas" we were joyful, happy, and we sang like nobody was watching. It felt so good to release so much pleasure, by singing a simple yet powerful song. As we get off the stage we were relieved that no one fainted. After hours and hours of waiting, the announcer finally announced the winners of the event. We did not win, but we were happy that we actually performed in large group of audience, and, of course, sang our hearts out. Same as "Aliw Theater" we did not win but we were still happy that we were nominated.
After the experience in 2nd Yr. High School, there was another experience I have had when I was in 3rd Yr. High School. It was the month of March. My teacher in Filipino, Mr. Rafael, ones told us that helping others, even if it's quite small, can make them happier much more. So my friends and I decided to go to a non-organization program called "Center for Health Improvement and Life Development Haus"(CHILD HAUS). Child Haus is temporary shelter for indigent patients from the different provinces who have cancer or other dreaded diseases and have no place to stay in Metro Manila while undergoing medical evaluation or treatment. As we arrive to the house, we immediately sat down and entertained the children. They were so welcoming, kind, and happy. There was this one kid whose name is Marco, he doesn't really have any cancer but the thing is, he doesn't have legs. But even though he does not have any legs, he was still joyful and happy. He was the kind of child who loves so much attention. So we did give him attention. He also loved to sing, dance, and also playing with the toys we gave them. It was so much fun being with them, it uplift our hearts to them, and realized that the world is greater with joy, love, and God in our Hearts.
As we say our last good byes, they immediately ran to us, hugged us so tight like they were never letting go and after that, they cried. At first we were confused because they just met us. So as we were thinking why? We realized that even though we just stayed there for 2-3 hours, it was still important to them, because they were so happy to have other people around them, even though they do not know them that much. So as Ate's(older sister) and Kuya's(older brother) we felt like we are the responsible one to calm them down. So we promised them that we are going back next year, same month. After we said that, they smiled like their smiles can touch their eyes. They hugged us again and said their goodbyes, for now. As we drove back to our houses, we realized that those children are so important to us, even though we are not related or what not. Those children gave us happiness like never before.
These experiences have given me the proof that I am a person. I sometimes fail in life, but even though I do, I still try and try and never give up, I feel happiness in such little things like most people do. I have faith, hope, and trust. This is what my experience has taught me. This is how I have been defined.
