Do you remember the day you realized what you wanted to do with your life? The first time that you were sure of the direction you wanted to take? The day that everything clicked and you knew where you belonged? I do!
I was my twelfth birthday, November 12, 2005. Family friends were taking me to my first college football game. Our faces were painted and our vehicle was decked out in orange and blue. It was a four hour drive. I watched the landscape change from flat boring valleys in the south to rolling hills as we approached Gainesville. On the way, we passed many other Gators on their way to the game. We saluted each other with a chomp. When we finally pulled off of I75 and pulled over the hill into Gainesville I was in awe. The architecture and the flow of the campus was beautiful.
On the way to the stadium, everyone greeted us with "Go Gators!" I was overwhelmed with excitement and enthusiasm. The atmosphere was like nothing I had ever felt before. When we reached Ben Griffin Stadium I was already blown away but then, the Gators took to the Swamp and the crowd exploded into a massive roar. It was so loud and passionate I couldn't even hear myself think. The thing that really sold it all and made everything in my soul just feel right was when the all the Gator fans stood up, joined together and sang We Are The Boys Of Old Florida. It was the most amazing, heart wrenching thing I have ever experienced.
All the way home, all I could think about was how I was going to reach my newly found goal of becoming a Gator. I knew it would be difficult, but I was going to make it happen. Since that day I have studied hard, taking honors and AP classes. I have been a dedicated athlete and a leader at my school. I work regularly with local students to help them better themselves and hopefully realize their future goals.
I can't think of a better place to continue my education than a community filled with spirit, dedication and passion.
