(For Arts and Sciences Applicants Only) If you are applying to Trinity College of Arts and Sciences, please discuss why you consider Duke a good match for you. Is there something in particular at Duke that attracts you? Please limit your response to one or two paragraphs.
Essay:
From more than 3000 colleges in the United States and many more in Europe, I picked Duke University for apparent reasons. Your outstanding academic programs, the wealth of opportunities on campus, and the setting appealed to me and played a significant role in my decision. The main reason for making Duke my top choice, however, are the great people teaching and studying at, as well as administrating Duke. Another important reason for me is your Table Tennis club which only a few colleges offer. In addition, Duke's Table Tennis club is one of the few colleges that participate not only in inter-collegiate competitions but also in NCTTA meets.
Duke's faculty has a reputation of being exceptional in terms of interest rating, accessibility, as well as personally. Undoubtedly, an education at Duke is very challenging. Consequently, I highly value great professors who help one live one's potential. Furthermore, reviews about Duke revealed that the administration cares about its students to a great extent. This is reflected in the smooth application process, numerous activities and events, great on campus food as well as beautiful dorms. Being as far away from home as I will be, I greatly appreciate Duke's caring environment which I consider invaluable. I am certain that such an atmosphere stimulates the students academically and socially. Additionally, I like the fact that Duke is a very athletic school and that most students participate in on campus events. To me, it seems, as if everyone at Duke is willing to do one's share in order to contribute to the common good. This attitude appeals to me. Another reason for me was the Focus Program. I want to work, think and talk to students who are passionate about a single subject. Through the small classes, we'll get to know each other well and we'll receive the individual attention of the faculty.
All those reasons convinced me that Duke is the place to go. I would love to become a member of the exceptional community - the "Duke Family" - and contribute as much to it as I would, undoubtedly, benefit from an education at your college.
