Hi,
I'm applying for VCU and the essay asks for my educational goals and why I want to study my chosen major. I already wrote the major part, but I don't know what to do for the educational goals. I'm not even sure how to start it... will someone please help?
Additional info: I want to major in journalism in order to become a journalist & i REALLY love writing...
Try and explain what you want get out of your education in journalism. How do you want to grow as a writer during your time at college? What kind of writer to you want to be after college is over? Basically try and explain what you want to be after you've completed your undergrad degree. So if you've already explained why you want to major in journalism, this is kind of the how portion. It's asking for what end product you want out of college.

Educational Goals essay for VCU
I am supposed to write about my educational goals and why I want to study journalism. Please critique where you see fit. Also, is there anything else I should add to it or is it fine?
My dream is to become a successful journalist. God gave me the gift of being able to communicate effectively and I plan to use it to my advantage in the future. After I graduate from high school, I plan on majoring in Journalism at Virginia Commonwealth University in order to make this dream a reality.
I hope to see significant growth in my writing skills while studying journalism at VCU. I think I am an excellent writer, but I wish to become even better. This is why I would like to enter the School of Mass Communications and earn my Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications with a specialization in journalism. After I complete my education, I want to have the ability to write about any and everything.
I am inspired by everything and everyone I encounter. For me, writing is an excellent way for me to document everything so that I will never forget it. I want to major in Journalism more than anything because writing is my passion and I do not want to spend my life doing anything else. I have so many thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and when I write, it gives me a chance to let it all out for everyone to see. Above all, I want to share my opinions, research new discoveries, and investigate events, and I want the whole world to read what I have to say.
My dream is to become a successful journalist. ----boring intro! When you write an intro, write something that will make someone want to read a little more.
Use a comma for a compound sentence:
God gave me the gift of being able to communicate effectively, and I plan to use it ...at the end of this paragraph, I am thinking, 'Journalism is not the only career that requires good communication.' A bit more info is necessary. Do you believe you can improve society and the world through journalism while also remaining objective?

Share with the reader some of the aspects of the field of journalism that inspire you, and let the reader be inspired, too. Also... tell me why you choose journalism over being a lawyer, copywriter, ghostwriter, teacher, politician... these all require good communication skills. Journalism is a particular approach to life and writing, so if you choose it -- with it's ideal of neutrality and objectivity, it's focus on current events that the masses of people find important... -- if you choose it, tell why you choose it over all the other options.
