In my life thus far I have faced so much growth which has helped me to become a hardworking, genuine person. To start off, I was diagnosed with a mild Central Auditory Processing Disorder which enabled me to have an IEP in Elementary and Middle school. Gradually I eliminated all of my modifications that were open to me by working harder in result of my disorder and learning ways to go around my weakness. Because of my work ethic that progressed because of the disorder, I was able to test out of the program by High School. Having to deal with the disorder substantially taught me how to compensate my focus and how to manage my work for High School. Now I believe I have tackled my weaknesses and know how to deal with my issues enough to know that my work ethnic will continue to grow throughout college.

During my sophomore year I began to think of a class that was more careers oriented to take a course during my junior and senior year. Since I grew up seeing my dad taking pictures, I always found photography amusing which, in conclusion, is the class I decided to take. My photography class initially turned my view on everything into a whole new way and I knew that photography was a passion of mine. As my passion for photography progressed, my junior year I was able to visit the Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington. I initially fell in love with the film sets and I was so interested in how production was made that I felt the need to keep coming back to Screen Gems Studios. My junior year I researched about different types of photography, which was when I came across cinematography and I realized that I could incorporate photography with film. I became extremely interested in cinematography which opened my mind to what I could do with this potential career. Because of my strong interest in cinematography, it led me to look at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington's website and read all about the film studies program and found that this was certainly a perfect fit.

I believe studying film will help me grow as a student by having more knowledge then I do now. As a person, I know I will continue to love learning about film and the new possibilities I will face.

I redid the whole thing:

My perils and passions have given me a foundation for a successful college experience. I was diagnosed with mild Central Auditory Processing Disorder which resulted in having an IEP through Middle School. Due to my strengths in some areas and strong work ethic I was able to eliminate all modifications and place out of the program for High School. I continue to recognize my challenges with CAPD and use mechanisms I have learned to manage it. For example, discovering memorization tools that work for me and always working in a quiet place to help me stay focused. I am confident that I will continue to grow and am prepared to use the communication and coping skills I have learned in this next stage of my life. From reading about UNCW, it will be an effective learning environment for me. It is described as a large school, with a small community feel. Most professors take the time to get to know you. I also see it described as a smaller school in comparison to other NC schools, but yet offer all the best parts of the college experience. I expect to take advantage of the many free help opportunities.

I once rad that your career should be based on your passion. By my sophomore year, I knew I wasn't going to make a career out of any of my core classes. I grew up seeing my dad, an Architect, take a lot of pictures. This always amused and intrigued me, so I decided to take Photography. This class turned my view on everything into a whole new way and it quickly became a passion. I was fortunate this past fall to win a Judge's Choice Award in photography at the Fair.

Another passion of mine is watching TV, especially a couple of teen/young adult dramas. Once I discovered Screen Gems Studios, and learned it is the largest motion picture facility in the US besides CA, I insisted on going. I have toured it three times. I initially fell in love with the film sets, and became more interested in how a film is made. In my class, I researched different types of photography and discovered cinematography. I could incorporate photography with film. It opened my mind to what I could do with this potential career. This led me to the UNCW website and I read about the film studies program and found this was certainly a perfect fit. I am excited at the possibility of being a part of this high profile program at UNCW and learning all the aspects of the program.

Even though UNCW School of the Arts is in my hometown, I do not feel I could truly focus on film in my own town. I prefer to be among students in a variety of academic majors- not just the arts. Studying at UNCW will allow me to further explore my passions, incorporate them, and continue on my desired path.
