I have written an opinion essay of loyalty lacking in today's society. I put examples of why I feel loyalty is important and how I have experienced both good and bad things when it comes to loyalty. I am trying to figure out how to take my opinion essay and turn it into an argument essay. I am stumped and would love any feedback anyone can give me on how to structure this argument. Thank you
Excerpt from my opinion essay:
It is hard to find good loyal people this day and age in society. There is evidence every day that this is lacking. There are a lot of people that respect others having this good trait, and in turn this loyalty will usually gain their trust and respect. In the workplace, loyalty can give you more opportunities such as the hours you want to work, or even give you more responsibility. In fact, loyalty that is discovered will be rewarded. You can realize that your friends can count on you when they are in a time of need, if they know you are loyal, and in turn you can count on them as well. Therefore, loyalty is so hard to find in today's society. There are so many selfish people looking out for just themselves, and not others.
A person showing they are loyal can gain the respect of others most of the time, but this trait can also bring out the opposite in some people. In everyday aspects of life, people need to depend on each other for many different reasons. My neighbors, for instance, were going away for vacation, and had asked me to keep an eye on their house for them while they are gone. This goes to show me, that my neighbors trusted me enough to ensure that nothing is going to happen to their house while they are on vacation, due to my loyalty in the past. In turn, I am able to trust them as well with my home. In my experience, in the infantry, you had to be loyal to your fellow squad members. When I had to go on maneuvers, I really had to rely on others to watch out for me as I watched out for them. If I did not have their loyalty, and respect it could have been detrimental to my life. In the past, being disloyal in the military during a time of war could actually have gotten you shot on sight. . In my opinion, loyalty goes hand in hand with respect. During my time in the military I was moved and transferred to different units and companies, including an aviation repair. When this was happening I would have to meet, train and work side by side with many new people, doing very important maintenance on important air crafts. I had to work hard at showing the shop I was loyal and they could depend on me. I found most were helpful with this and showed me they were loyal and dependable as well, some had a harder time with this. The ones with no loyalty or respect made it very difficult to achieve our goals and there can be no room for doubt when someone will be flying the machinery you are repairing.
