I strive to rediscover a world where humans live in harmony with animals- where the artificial and natural boundaries that isolate mankind from nature no longer exist.
The vision of Ashes and Snow by Gregory Colbert weaves together the most powerful forms of art in order to capture incredible interactions between earth's creatures and the sensibility of animals. I have been enthralled my entire life by their intellectual abilities and emotional capacities. No matter how many times I preach about the elephant's gyral pattern complexities, superior memory capacity, funeral rituals, altruism, and level of consciousness, nothing makes this information sink in deeper than having one's mirror neurons fire with empathy upon looking into the eye's of the beast. Our isolation from the natural world as resulted in a lack of appreciation for the extraordinary potentials it possesses. When I look at the images in this exhibit, I experience an array of profound emotions. I'm awed by their human expressions and yearn to assist the animal conservation effort. As a citizen of this Earth I feel it is my moral obligation to protect the helpless and innocent creature's who coexist with us. Our superior knowledge should be used to help those who cannot help themselves and spread awareness on the important of their existence. The harmony I aim for is utopian, but my high expectations will be the foundation for future success.

As a child, I always searched for injured birds, lost dogs, and hungry cats to bring home. The relationships I developed with these animals reinforced my need to help them. As I got older, I was intrigued by psychology. I wanted to know how I could make people appreciate wildlife the way I do. My love for nature and fascination with the mind led me to believe I could use psychology to study animal behavior. Years of observing animals and humans showed me that we aren't so different. By identifying the similarities and proving the intellectual superiority of the wild animals I admire, I could potentially save them from the greatest threat of all, humans.
NYU's Animal Studies initiative supports the type of research and intellectual curiosity that I am pursuing. NYU's psychology department is highly developed and will give me the opportunity to explore a vast range of enthralling topics. NYC has the globalization and connections that will guide me to those who possess similar passions and interests in animals and psychology. The diversity I will encounter at NYU will create the academically stimulating atmosphere I need to succeed. The plethora of resources available at NYU will help me achieve my career goals. I belong at NYU because it is the archetype for the quality of education to which I am devoted. The principles of the College of Arts and Science are my principles. I am convinced that "useful knowledge" is essential for achieving a higher level of consciousness.
Why have you have chosen the NYU New York campus (using a of 700 characters-spaces and punctuation included).
New York is a city of countless opportunities and infinite possibilities, and I cannot wait to embark on them. The fast-pace environment of the concrete jungle is invigorating, but can be overwhelming to someone raised in my proximity to nature. I was born to a very close-knit family, which is why I find NYC to be the perfect distance from home. Knowing that I am just a 2-hour bus or train ride away from the tranquility of eastern Long Island is reassuring. The challenge of being unique in the diversity of NYC will allow my education at NYU to extend outside of the classroom. As an immigrant fighting for the American Dream, I feel that NYU embodies my pursuit of excellence.
