PROMPT: Indicate a person who has had a significance influence on you and describe that influence.

When someone asks me who has been the most influential in shaping your life, your mentality, your aspirations, I instinctively say," It's my younger brother". "Younger!!!!" comes in the very next reply (I could have added many more exclamations to make you feel the extent of bewilderment on their faces). "Yes, it's the same you have heard, sir; my younger brother, Vishu," I say. The person is still not over from this peculiarity, that I strike another blow on his custom of 'expecting' things," He's a cerebral palsy (Spastic hemiplegia ) patient". Most people, here, do not seem to know what cerebral palsy is; and almost all of those, whom I am referring to will not understand either, if I tell them the medical definition of Cerebral Palsy: "Cerebral palsy (CP) is an umbrella term encompassing a group of non-progressive, non-contagious motor conditions that cause physical disability in human development, chiefly in the various areas of body movement" .That's why I need to satisfy most of the people by saying it's something similar to Polio; though I personally do not like to say this.

His treatment is just physiotherapy, speech therapy, special education and just a lot of care and love. I spend most of my time, when I am home with him, in his special education. He is to be taught small little things like names of common objects, animals, fruits. I taught him to play carrom as well. While many people who know him will not believe that he can play carrom, his luck in the game (since he does not strike with accuracy due to lack of proper hand eye coordination), makes him win almost all the matches he plays with people with them !

This made me realise one very important thing in my life, one of my favourites quotes, "Never consider a being disabled; he's just differently-abled". I relate to this as physicists do for, Wave-Particle duality, We just know the small parts of the big picture when we experiment with light and say, it's a wave or a particle, it's just that it's something else, not a wave not a particle, but just something else, we don't know about. Disabled people for me are similar, as stated, differently-abled, they have some different abilities, which we normal people can never understand, but it's there, always, something big, the big picture to the world of differently-abled, still unidentified.

I create powerpoint presentations for him, and I have created a video with me teaching him his book. This has helped me get an understanding of how a person's learning abilities work, which has subsequently helped me in realizing what exactly is going wrong today in our country's educational system, and has inspired me to do something for it.

My brother only is the reason for my understanding of this society, its baseless customs, and its illogical mentality: people burying their disabled kids up to neck in sand; piecing their ears; felling them from fifth floors; dipping them in icy river waters, thinking it can cure them. It's just so stupid, so irrational. What else can be the height of cruelty? People call it blind faith; I call it blind brain; why even use a term like faith with such acts of cruelty. This has been one of the central reasons of my inclinations towards science and towards logic.

He cannot stand on his own, but he has made me stand on my faith; he cannot walk, but he has made me see the entire world; he cannot talk in sentences, but he has taught me the most valuable lessons in my life; he cannot think logically correct all the time; but he has shaped my rational mentality; he is 4 years younger to me, but he has done all that to me what an elder brother could even not have done; He is the greatest gift, I could have had, greatest fortune, I could have wished for and the greatest inspiration, I could have sought for.

Today, I am not disabled, but I can almost equally feel the pain a disabled feels; I did now grow up in poverty, but I can feel the pain a poor kid feels; and that's all because of my brother. His disability has made me feel, how lucky I am, physically, mentally and what I am now required, to do for all kinds of disabled people, all kinds of weaker people: physically, mentally, socially or economically.

Thus I have devoted my life to science ; and to create a system, which provides an equal platform for everyone to grow regardless of his physical, mental, social or economic disabilities. Two very different things, but connected by that most important thread of 'reason'.

Please correct the grammar, and suggest for betterment!

Hi Prateek, I'm really sorry I did not get to help before you submitted. We have SO many essays this time of year, and only so many mods and contributors...

The good news is that this essay has something special about it... I like your unconventional use of parenthesis and exclamation points, very cool.

That's why I need to satisfy most of the people by...

His treatment is just consists of physiotherapy, speech therapy, special education and just a lot of care and love.

Let's write four instead of 4:
he is 4 four years younger to me, but he has done all that to me what been all that an elder brother could have been and done things even an elder brother could not have done; he is the greatest ...

Wow! I actually loved this essay.
My only advice is not to get too casual in your writing.
ex. "so stupid" and "poor kid" can get offensive.
Also, the introduction is off to a great start, and I love the idea, it just need a little cleaning up.
Your second to last paragraph is wonderful.
Good luck, and I hope the paper wasn't already due! (:
