I like making art because it is one of the few things that I feel comfortable doing. I often find myself drawing when I am upset, stressed or even when I am happy. My passion for art started at a young age when I would draw just about anything. When I was younger, my family and I moved around multiple times, but my love for art has always been consistent. Every time we move, the house changes, the neighborhood changes but most importantly the people change as well. That is why most of my paintings consist of portraits of the people that I care about. The process of painting my family and friends allows me to grasp the relationship that I have with them. The paintings are also a representation of how I see the people around me.
My art is like a journal that records the people I meet and the things I see. My most recent drawings are more simplistic and contain a child like aspect to them, which references the way I drew when I was younger and my past memories. With my style of drawing, I also enjoy creating different characters in my sketch book and putting them into odd situations.
Photography is a big part of my art as well. However, photography is currently less personal and more experimental than my other medium of work.
I am applying as an undergraduate student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; I believe that it is one of the few schools that can help me grow as a young artist both conceptually and technically.
