In Of Mice and Men by John Seinbeck. George Milton is a friendly and caring man. In this novel, George shows truly how caring he is for his best friend Lennie. George is a good man with good intentions, but overtime has gotten a stubborn side. He is occasionally mean to Lennie, complaining about everything he misses out on by having to travel with him. However, he feels guilty after he yells at Lennie and George is always quick to comfort him. George reveals his character through his statements, his actions, and by what the author says about him.

George's statements prove that he is a compassionate, loving, and devoted friend. George's first words in the novel are a stern warning to Lennie not to drink so much water or he will get sick. This warning reveals George's concern for Lennie and sets the tone for his and Lennie's relationship. During a conversation with one of the ranch hands George tells about a time he abused Lennie for his own amusement. From this incident George realized the moral lesson that it is wrong to take advantage of the weak. From then on he did not regard Lennie as a mentally inhibited individual, he treated him more like a man.

George's actions prove that he is compassionate. George may be terse and impatient at times, but he never strays from his primary purpose of protecting Lennie. George is very nurturing around Lennie. For example, in Weed when Lennie pulls on the girls dress George gives up his job to run away with Lennie. In the end of the novel Georges compassion is pushed to the end. When George finds out that Lennie killed Curley's Wife it comes to no surpise to him. He kills Lennie in the brush to save him from Curley's anger mob that is coming for him and would give him a mirceless dealth. Georges character is described through what the author says about him, and what other's opinions on him are. George is described as a physically small man. Milton is the last name of the author of, Paradise Lost. George's personality often reflects both anger and understanding. Between Lennie and himself he is the one who thinks through and considers how their goals can be reached. George's also foresees possible complications and gives Lennie advice on what he must do to help their future. While Geroge can be very rational and thoughtful he also gets frustrated and angry with Lennie because Lennie cannot control his strength or actions. Although George does get angry it quickly fades when he remembers Lennie's innocence.

George's murder of Lennie is a renunciation of his own dream, because Lennie is the only person he wants to achieve the dream together. The loss Lennie also lost Geroge's only hope. It's an unwillingly decision to make but he had to. He certainly doesn't want Lennie to suffer at Curley's hand, and he also doesn't want Lennie to harm anybody. This is the best way for Lennie and everyone's safety. Geroge killed Lennie out of love. In conclusion, George Milton is a responsible common man with a dream. His loyal friendship and responsibility with Lennie helps him to sustain his dream of a better future but sadly, it ends with the death of Lennie.
