Choose an issue of importance to youïthe issue could be personal, school related, local, political, or international in scopeïand write an essay in which you explain the significance of that issue to yourself, your family, your community, or your generation.

An issue I find important in today's society is the issue of not being open minded. This characteristic is something I do not often see in people. The reason this issue appeals to me is because the many positive affects we are missing out on just because of not being open minded. Having an open mind means to be willing to consider or receive new and different ideas. Living in a world where there are so many views of everything, I believe having an open mind can only bring positive effects.

Society has become more liberal over many years. Beliefs and ideas which were rejected are now accepted by many people. The issue I see is that not being open minded can lead one to reject an idea or belief just because they limit themselves to what they know and are comfortable with. However when change occurs these people will become more and more frustrated. The issue of not being open minded can concern technology, politics, religion, society or many more. Problems caused by these things could be eliminated if people would open their mind. Doing this not only allows one to expand their knowledge, but also helps them improve their problem solving skills. It helps us look at more than one way to deal with a problem and can create better solutions. Not being open minded can lead to ignorance which is another abominable issue.

Growing up in New York and then moving to Texas, I have seen many diverse cultures, beliefs, ideas, and other circumstances. Allowing myself to review and learn about these things has caused me to increase my knowledge. I have gained many views from many people and this has allowed me to become a more open minded person. Because of this I am comfortable with newer ideas and beliefs.

In conclusion I believe that not being open minded is an issue that causes problems with politics, society, and religion. I believe that if people become more open minded these issues would be solved and society would be able to move on in a liberal way.

i like your topic but i think you could do a much better job with it. The first passage sounds generic and gets boring after some time. But your idea of including your own personal experience is good. You can start the essay with that. Use a quote or a specific example to say how you accepted the change in ideas when you moved from NYC to texas. elaborate your own experience a bit and then move on the challenges of the society. then it can get much better.

Sorry for being harsh.
