Stanford students are widely known to possess a sense of intellectual vitality. Tell us about an idea or an experience you have had that you find intellectually engaging.
Each year, our Physics teacher gives a chance to improve a grade, if you can come up with a project that is different and challenging. So I took the challenge.
It happens that I did very well at the class, I didn't actually need to improve any grade, but I just enjoy challenging science projects. So I spoke to my professor and he told me to pick a partner. Thankfully a very good friend of mine is an actual genius at math and physics so I talked him into the project. We came up with two amazing projects, first a Nuclear Fusion Reactor and a Tesla Coil, the Reactor was a the one I wanted to do the most, but it demanded knowledge that I didn't have so sadly we had to put it away. Now the Tesla coil seemed more plausible, so we decided to do it.
The interesting thing here is that I really wasn't very sure about what I was doing; I could've taken ages to finish it by myself. Even though I had never been more motivated, I realized that I didn't have the knowledge or the experience to do it by myself. Finally we finished our Tesla Coil and the results were amazing. But the greatest lesson was that, despite me being more passionate than ever about any project, without my partner's knowledge it couldn't have been possible. I Learned that passion alone, can be a disaster without the proper preparation, so the next time I feel the same passion, I want Stanford to give me the tools, so I can be ready to take on any challenge.

Hola! roommie,
You may think that me being from Chile will make us completely different, but trust me when I tell you that I am probably very similar to you in some way.
My friends would consider me as a "hunch" type of guy. Usually when I have a feeling about something, I follow through, maybe that's why I've tried so many different things. From skydiving to drumming, any attempts to classify me are just not plausible.
Well, first, it's nearly impossible to make me put my Iphone down; I check it literally a hundred times each day. Mainly for the news and the email, but if you are such a tech addict as myself you'll know what I'm talking about!
One thing that may strike you about me, is my diverse musical taste, and how emotional I can get with songs; you can easily get me weeping with the Titanic Theme song. My guitar will probably join us in our free time. I'm not a bad singer though, but with my guitar, I can play virtually anything, from Coldplay to Chris Brown.
On the other side, I'm quite an athletic type guy, and I find sports super fun, maybe we can go for a jog or just hit the gym, after a long study streak.
Having said that, I look forward to meeting you, and I am sure we'll have the best time at Stanford!
