Please edit my essay :]
Prompt:
Florida State University is more than just a world-class academic institution preparing you for a future career. We are a caring community of well-rounded individuals who embrace leadership, learning, service, and global awareness. With this in mind, which of these characteristics appeal most to you, and why?
Essay:
"Mommy, why is the sky blue?" "What is air made of?" Ever since I was a child, I aspired to learn. Learning is what moves me forward; education is what enables me to thrive to my utmost potential. It keeps me constantly on my toes. Each new day provides me with the opportunity to grasp new information. Knowledge is the key to success and it's essential for growth which is why learning appeals to me most.
Learning is a process in life that will never end. As babies, we learn how to distinguish our mothers from other people, read faces, and even mimic them. As we begin to age, we become wiser. Our experiences in life allow us to gain insight, no matter if it is positive or negative. Learning is a way to change yourself and your habits. It's a way to better oneself and others. As I said before, knowledge is essential for growth, not only for us but the world as a whole. In order for the world to augment, research is needed. Research invariably leads to a better understanding, thus inducing improvements or solutions. This goes beyond the traditional coursework.
Florida State University gives me the chance to research with the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program. "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." Research will allow me to fully understand certain topics and how they improve the community. I am particularly interested in Psychological topics: Why is the number of suicides increasing in female teenagers? Is child obesity a reflection of parental negligence? Does gender affect memory? I believe that anyone can make a difference in this world through learning, research, and discovery. I believe that I can make a difference as an undergraduate student.
My parents always guided me in the right direction. They flooded me with advice and lectures of how I should live my life. They taught me what was right and what was wrong, how to work for the things I wanted, and how to treat the people around me. As a young child, most of these lessons went into one ear and left the other, but there is one quote my mother said to me when I was twelve years old that remains with me. "The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from you." Learning, ever since then, is something I will treasure for as long as I live.
