Select three activities that you feel demonstrate your leadership abilities best. Focus your description on elements that demonstrate: teamwork, initiative, achievement, commitment and breadth. (500 words max.)
Please give constructive criticism on both essays (I haven't started the third one yet)! I'm not confident with my first person essay writing skills.
Thank-you. :)

Starting out as one of the many section editors who played a small role in the book to holding the highest position of authority, Spectrum is where I first discovered my passion for leadership. As one of the largest and most devoted clubs next to Student Council, Spectrum is the yearbook committee of my school. Consisting of 57 students, our members are those with first-rate graphic design skills, unrivalled visual art skills, and aspiring young photographers and journalists.
Initially, I joined Spectrum only to earn points for an award. However, the experience and satisfaction I gained from meeting new people, working with my peers, and participating in the yearbook made me desire much more. I was no longer satisfied with just working on one part of the book. I wanted to have a say in the other sections as well but considering how the system worked, I had to be a part of the executive team in order to do so. It was then that I decided to advance my way up to the highest position-editor in chief.
After acquiring the position in my senior year, my first action was to remodel the club structure. I always thought that it was odd how despite the ratio of those who were skilled in graphic design to visual design was about 1:3, section editors were always paired up. As a result, there was no one who could really use Photoshop in the majority of those pairs. I decided to change that by splitting section editor into graphic designer and visual designer. Visual designers are in charge of designing the blueprints of each spread and graphic designers bring these spreads to life. Photographers were also split up into two sections: candid and events. This change allowed for everyone to showcase their talents and divvied up the tasks while improving club morale through various interactions with one another.
By maintaining positive relationships within and outside of the club, I had the support of many. From operating graphic design workshops to giving constructive criticism to proofreading any written content-an individual could not have done it alone. I would not have accomplished all of this if it were not for my team.
Spectrum has given me the chance to grow in several areas. As the editor in chief, I manage all activities and communications, as well as delegating tasks to the rest of the team. There were a few instances where I wish I had handled the situation differently. But because of these instances, I was able to reflect on myself and take note on what I should have done and be prepared for any future difficulties. As of right now, the yearbook is coming along great and all of us at Spectrum cannot wait to see the results of our efforts.
