Service can be as simple as returning a wallet or last your lifetime. Either way, it is about giving to others regardless of whether you receive recognition or not. It is about doing the right thing and putting others' needs before your own. I enjoy doing things to help others. It makes me feel as if I have done something right and made a difference.

Service does not always involve physical hardship or donating your time to distribute food, sometimes it's as simple as doing the right thing. In eleventh grade, while leaving class, I noticed a wallet on the floor beneath the risers. As I picked the wallet up, I noticed that not only did it contain a driver's license, but it held a large sum of cash. When I approached the owner to return it, he had not even realized it was missing.

Sometimes service requires a larger amount of time than ten minutes to return a wallet. My Eagle Project totaled over 100 hours. I lead a book/game drive at my local middle school for St. Joseph's Villa, a nonprofit organization offering assistance to children and families in need. With the items collected, they were able to create a game and educational library for the residents and students. The impact of the project on their lives is one they will never know I created, but that is one of the beauties of service. It is not about the recognition, but that's not why I help Ut-Prosim.
