Spacing, characters, word limit my personal statement?

Hi!

I'm working on filling out an online application to the university I wish to attend next year and I was wondering if I need to double-space my personal statement? I feel unsure because I'm typing it in a provided space as opposed to Microsoft Word or handwriting it. The instruction given says it cannot exceed one typewritten page--am I then to assume that I should double-space it?

Try 1.5. Single is probably too dense for a typewritten page, but 1.5 ought to be good enough.

With or without spaces + how many characters per line? Character Limit Confused!

Alright so when the prompt says that the essay must have no more than 120 lines of 80 characters, I understand thats a lot of characters and it does give me a lot of room. But I'm confused at some points.

1. The total comes to be 9600 characters, is that with or without spaces?
2. Does each line have to be 80 characters? Because thats a ridiculously short sentence. and do you have to have approx. 120 lines? or are they just saying that to give you and idea of the length of the essay?

Help is very appreciated :)))

1. It should be with spaces.
2. "..no more than..." do not go beyond that limit

no, your sentences dont HAVE to be 80 characters. its just giving you a max, so anything under it is fine

wait, it cant exceed 80 characters? with the essay staying under 9600 characters?
because 80 characters with spaces is wayy too short for a sentence.

I don't know, but it seems short.

Probably it includes spaces. Anyway, if they are unclear, it is not your fault. If I ever gave someon a character limit, I would specify whether I meant to include spaces. If it was my application, I would write it with 80, not including spaces, and if they have a problem with it they are morons and I don't want to go to their stupid school anyway.

Just get beyond this, and get inspired!
