The University of Washington seeks to create a community of students richly diverse in cultural backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. How would you contribute to this community?
I hope I wrote smth related to the proper topic. But I am afraid that this is a bad essay.(
Please, help me to improve it. I`ll appreciate it a lot.
Thaaanks from Russia :)
Initially, I come from Russia and I have been taking an interest in history of WWII for several years. I read a lot of books, watched numerous documentary films and organized events dedicated to V - Day. In my opinion, WWII was one of the most tragic and inspiring events in the history of former USSR and Russia as its major part. Accordingly, I believe that the perception of the Second World War in other countries being involved in it is similar to that in Russia. Moreover, I think that organizing some commemorative concerts and fairs dedicated to history of WWII will help to support and strengthen communication and collaboration between people of different nations. Having an extensive experience in organizing such events, I would be happy and proud to use it for a rapprochement between ethnic groups in University of Washington.
Secondly, I chose a program in Economics and I am truly fascinated by this science. Despite the fact that I did not study economics at high school, I have a profound knowledge in some areas of economic theory thanks to reading books and watching business channels on TV. For instance, Russia is famous for its scientists in spheres of econometrics and institutional economics: W. Leontief, N. Kondratiev and E. Slutsky. Fortunately, I had an opportunity to explore their theories in original and I got a deep understanding of their theories because I had grown in the same culture and we are of the same nation. So, I can say that it is easier for me to realize what they mean by government intervention, economical structure and other specific terms. Thus, I would be pleased and proud to share and exchange my knowledge of economic theories created by Russian scientists with other students of UW through open workshops or conferences.
Finally, I love to play piano and graduated musical school several years ago. I noticed that playing and listening to international composers` music assisted me in being familiar with various cultures and broaden my ken. In UW, I hope to take part in various concerts to expand my communication network.
