Tell me what you guys think.
"The race is not given to the swift nor the strong but he who endures until the end" Ecclesiastes 9:11. This was always my mother's words of inspirations and I never understood its meaning until I became an example of this quote. I've been enrolled in college since 2006 trying to seek admission into a nursing program. Along my academia journey I've been met with several obstacles such as lack of guidance, average grades, and financial difficulties which have staggered my process of obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. I've used the word "stagger" because although it has slowed my process down, it hasn't inhibited my motivation, and passion for being a Nurse. It has helped my perceptive of what is needed from me to be successful in a well-built nursing program.
Over the past four years I've matured and have been given the opportunity to leave lasting impression on the colleges I attended. I became active in clubs such as the Campus Activities Board/ Student Government, and "Rebuild Your College" which gave me an opportunity to express my leadership and creativity to individuals all over campus. I've become appreciative of everything I've accomplished through my journey of college. In life you reach a road block that allows you to stop and experience events that allow you to grow as an individual. This is what has helped me become the woman I am today.
Pursing my education at New York University would be a great way for me to continue my studies in nursing. Its interest in being a part of the community in vast countries is the bases to expanding and improving health education is a strong interest of mine. The nursing program at New York University fits my professional goals of working one on one with the community and improving health conditions, promoting good and affordable health, and research for preventable diseases. There are programs such as The Undergraduate Urban Health Project, the Large Scale Emergency Readiness Project, and the Feeling Good In Your Neighborhood Mobile Health Program that will allow me to get out there in the world and make a difference.
In essence, New York University's nursing program will help me to engage with, contribute to, and learn from the global scientific community. The courses your program offers will not only broaden my knowledge, but also satisfy my curiosity and deepen my understanding of nursing. My reliability and diligence will be a great asset to this program. In addition, the program will elevate my passion to a skill set that I can use more effectively to help others; others similar to - yet still different from - myself.
