Technological advancement during the twentieth century has brought out amazing solutions for food preparation. The modern methods and appliances of cooking are much more convenient, efficient and reliable in contrast to the conventional methods and appliances that were used by earlier generation to prepare food.
To begin with, the modern cooking appliances have a taken a dramatic leap forward in enabling people to prepare their food quickly and more conveniently. For example, microwave ovens and electric burners cook much faster than old stoves. Also they do not require human vigilance during cooking, since they have inbuilt capabilities to convert their cooking mode to non cooking mode. However conventional appliances such as kerosene oil cookers and old stoves required the person to watch over when he or she was cooking in order to avoid the food becoming over heated and inedible.
In addition, there are many prepackaged ingredients and pre cooked food items available in supermarkets. People can easiy purchase and them and use for their food preparation. For example, in my country, "Biriyani" is a dish of rice with an authentic flavor. Several ingredients should be added into rice while cooking in order to obtain this special flavor. My mother used to make these ingredients at home by grinding and pounding different spices in required quantities. However, today, the Biriyani flavor is readily available in the market and it is a matter of purchasing the packaged flavor and follow the instructions printed on the package while cooking.
More over, there are many pre cooked food items available in the markets, such as naan, bread, sausages, smoked chicken etc. These precooked foods can be soon made into edible meals by heating up in a microwave oven for a very short time. When we think of earlier generations they did not enjoy such facilities.
However there is much controversy about these modern methods and appliances of cooking. The opponents argue that new methods destroy much of nutrient value of the food and leave the possibility to contain unhealthy chemicals in the food. Despite these facts, the modern ways of food preparation have helped people to find effective solutions for their busy lives with respect to food preparation in terms of convenience, efficiency and reliability.
